Youth Leading Climate Action in Schools♻️
Few weeks ago, Girls Connect Sierra Leone officially launched the "No Litter Campaign" through its Future Leaders for climate justice project a Climate Action School Club initiative at the Rogbaneh Government Municipal Girls School, bringing together students, teachers, local authorities, and community stakeholders to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable waste management in schools.
The launch event was graced by the Deputy Mayor of Makeni City Council, who served as the keynote speaker and commended the commitment of young people in addressing environmental challenges through practical action. In his remarks, Mr Ibrahim Nelson Kamara emphasized the importance of maintaining clean and healthy school environments and encouraged students to become ambassadors for environmental protection in their communities.
The "No Litter Campaign" seeks to reduce indiscriminate waste disposal, promote proper waste management practices, and instill a culture of environmental stewardship among students. Through awareness sessions, school clean-up activities, peer education, and climate action initiatives, students are learning that small daily actions can contribute significantly to combating environmental degradation and building climate-resilient communities.
This initiative shows the critical role young people play in tackling climate change. As future leaders, youth possess the creativity, energy, and passion needed to drive sustainable solutions. By empowering students to take ownership of their environment, the campaign is helping to build a generation that understands the connection between waste management, public health, environmental protection, and climate action.
The launch marks the beginning of a broader movement aimed at creating cleaner schools, greener communities, and more environmentally conscious citizens.
