Orphans in Sierra Leone face immense challenges due to various factors and one of these factors is war. The country's civil war, which lasted from 1991 to 2002, left deep scars, including widespread poverty, displacement, and destruction of infrastructure. This conflict led to the loss of parents, leaving many children orphaned and vulnerable.

𝑲𝒆𝒚𝒔 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓'𝒔 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝑶𝒓𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝑺𝒖𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔:

𝑷𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒚: Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, with over 57% of the population living below the poverty line. This economic hardship makes it difficult for families to care for their children, let alone orphans.

𝑳𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆: Limited access to quality education and healthcare exacerbates the challenges faced by orphans.

𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑯𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓: Many orphans suffer from malnutrition and hunger, which can have long-term effects on their health and well-being.

𝑨𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒐𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: Orphans are often vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, and child labor.
𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝑺𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒔: The country's social support systems are still recovering from the civil war, leaving many orphans without adequate care and protection.

These factors are interconnected and can have devastating consequences for orphans in Sierra Leone. Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive approach that involves government support, international aid, and community engagement.

Yeima Lahai's Story:

Yeima Lahai's life took a devastating turn when her mother passed away during childbirth, leaving behind her father and two young children. The loss of her mother was particularly hard on Yeima's father, who turned to alcohol to cope with his grief. As time went on, his addiction worsened, and he eventually lost his sight. Despite these challenges, Yeima showed remarkable resilience and determination. She took on more responsibilities to care for her younger brother and father.

Hawa Sheku's Story:

Hawa Sheku's life was forever changed by the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. She lost both parents to the deadly disease, leaving her alone and vulnerable. With no family to turn to, Hawa had to rely on the kindness of others to survive.

A New Beginning:

Both Yeima and Hawa found solace in the Save the Orphans Village, a community that provided them with support, care, and a sense of belonging. The village became a haven for these young girls, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives and create a brighter future.
