THE DUKONO COMMUNITY SCHOOL RECONSTRUCTION WORK ON PROGRESS.

The Dukono Community School is one of the most important and significant infrastructure in the community. Today, young people are using their existing expertise and the new skills, knowledge and capacity gained so far through to rebuild the Dukono Community School.

At this point, it is important to let everyone know that, the foundation beams (which has been made long ago), the columns and the overhead beams of any structure ranging from personal home, schools, and hospitals are very crucial for the safety and life span of such infrastructures. Shown on the pictures below, the boys have been able to design the frame of the overhead beams using rebars (rods), stirrups and binding wire. This is not just any ordinary community construction project, this is about put existing expertise; new skills, knowledge and capacity all together to rebuild the future and hope of the Dukono Jungle Community.

As donors, Ingeniører Uden Grænser - IUG are not only giving the money or funds, they have also been involved throughout this project ranging from designing the solutions (done together with the community, HFF and the local contractors including the school teachers), frame work and casting of the foundation beams and columns and yes to the design of the overhead beams for the school. The volunteers at EWB-DK have increased the skill level, knowledge and experience in construction (most of which has been done virtually) of the local contractors.

Entrusting international donor funds in the hands of a local partner, HER Future Foundation has enhanced community trust and ownership, quality service delivery, transparency and accountability etc. The community has been fully involved in this project providing labor and local materials such as granite, water, wood and sand etc.

This is just an example of what it means by empowering communities though local and indigenous agencies to champion sustainable community development. It means that, small or limited amount of euro 💶 dollar 💵 or any currency can be transform into passion, action and sustainable impacts. This is what EWB-DK is doing by empowering HFF to champion local community development.

Here and everywhere around the world, to all cooperate, government and private donors or funders, please know that every single euro 💶 dollar 💵 or coin through EWB-DK will surely reach the most deprived, vulnerable, far fetch, isolated and affected communities and population with love ❤️ care and compassion for humanitarian assistance.

HFF is fortunate to be exposed to these realities

WE ARE GETTING TO THE END.

Here on this post, HER Future Foundation present to you the local contractors working on the reconstruction of the Dukono Community School. These young people have different expertise, experience and interest areas. However, the construction of the school has brought them together. Now, they are one unit. Recenty, we bought rebars, stirrup and binding wire just to produce a single structure called . Putting together their different experiences with a goal of having the Beam design, among the pictures you can see the products

This is not about how educated we are, it is not about the money. It is about rebuilding hope and getting the kids back to school. The greatest lesson to learn from this project is the trust and confidence Ingeniører Uden Grænser - IUG as a donor have in these young people. It is about localization, about community willingness to transform their community. It is also about a global donor like Engineers Without Borders trusting a local agency like Her Future Foundation and the ability of HFF to design and implement the project based on community needs involving the unique voices of every community members including those living with disability, teachers and the children.

Through volunteer staff including Brian Klindrup, , Kristian Nissen and Jeppe Nybroe, the local contractors have developed new, skills, knowledge, capacity and experience in construction; HFF has gained and strengthen it organizational capacity in leadership, project reporting and financial management; and YES the community people have learnt what it means to own a community development project like the school reconstruction project.

The local contractors are working and EWB-DK continues to support the work.

We HER Future Foundation, the local contractors and the community people are back on the Dukono Community School Reconstruction site to complete the school. During this finishing period, we shall focus on the following but not limited to:
1. Construction and casting of the top beams
2. Roofing
3. Plastering
4. Floor
5. Painting (in and out)
6. Construction of toilet
7. Construction of either bore hole or hand dug water well (to be confirm by EWB-DK)
8. Basic electrification of the school (to be confirm by EWB-DK)
9. Interior (branded benches and desks for children, chairs and tables for teachers, cupboard and black etc) (to be confirm by EWB-DK)

Some of the most important lessons to learn from this project so far include:
1. Full community participation and ownership
2. The wellingness of community people to learn new skills in community development
3. The willingness of the local contractors to gain new knowledge, new skills, and new construction experience from EWB-DK team
4. Project implementation skills, reporting and financial skills gained by HFF through coaching from EWB-DK
5. Many hands, knowledge and expertise put together in the work.
6. Early disbursement of funds to reach HFF
7. EWB-DK's passion as an international donors to build and expand the capacity and visibility of a local partner and the beneficiary community
8. Effective, timely and efficient communication between HFF and EWB-DK

Just like EWB-DK continue to build the capacity of the Dukono Community People, expanding the knowledge of the local contractors in construction and creating learning opportunities for local non profit NGO like Her Future Foundation, resourcing local allies and agencies, and then asking them to take responsibility and champion community development and transformation; YES THEY CAN.

This project is fully funded with capacity and technical support from Ingeniører Uden Grænser - IUG

Soon the kids will return to their school.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR DONORS

Meet the incredible team from Ingeniører Uden Grænser - IUG; Brian Klindrup, Kristian Nissen, and Jeppe Nybroe who visited the Sierra Leone Jungle Community called Dukono. Their visit was based on , not only to rebuild the Storm Damaged Dukono School but to introduce new hope, new life and tell the people and children of Dukono that Engineers Without Borders Denmark loves ❤️ and care about them.

They didn't trave for tourism, not for money or powers. Their visit was a selfless volunteerism actions to bridge and rebuild the most deprived and far fetch community. The road leading to Dukono is the most deplorable and crossing each wood bridge on road could cost you your life, but these guys traveled through all borders from Denmark 🇩🇰 and Sweden 🇸🇪 to Africa, to West Africa, to Sierra Leone, to Makeni, to Kabala and YES driving through dangerous road network passing over 6 villages, Engineers Without Borders Denmark finally reached the Jungle Dukono Community.

They are the first ever donors whose physical, technical and funding presence has been felt in Dukono.

Dukono is an isolated community that has long been deprived from education, health care services, pure drinking water, good road network and of course other basic life supporting elements. Dukono was proud to receive delegation from Denmark 🇩🇰 marking A NEW ERA in the transformation and development of the community

Throughout their stay, these amazing guys slept out in absolute cold weather conditions with no electricity over their head, no good toilet facilities, eating locally made bread and cooked rice, visiting rivers, fetching water with the kids, designing community led but sustainable solutions, dancing and charting with the less previllege, telling the powerful story of Dukono to the EUROPE COMMUNITIES. These were all meant to design HOPE. They also visited the BAMBOO grown forest to see how BAMBOO can be innovatively use by the community for future infrastructural development.

To the rest of world, I must confirm that Engineers Without Borders Denmark are not just engineers or technical non profit trying to fix infrastructural challenges but also a humanitarian organization rebuilding hope, giving opportunities to the most deprived, giving new life and reshaping the world. All their work and assistance are based on community needs, community led and community ownership.

Each dollars 💵, euros 💶, pounds 💷 or your technical donations through Engineers Without Borders Denmark will surely reach the right people in the most deprived communities and needy situation.

HER FUTURE FOFOUNDAT loves ❤️ Engineers Without Borders Denmark, the people and children of Dukono loves them, our ancestors welcomed and accept them.
