Presenting the GCCA+ Project Team 😊
The EU funded GCCA+ project, “ Supporting Adaptation to Climate Change on La Digue,” is a DIM project (Remember we introduced the concept of DIM-Direct Implementation) ie it is managed and implemented by UNDP.
The Global Climate Change Alliance was established by the (EU) in 2007 to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with developing countries, in particular least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS). GCCA+ is the second phase of the programme that commenced in 2014.
In the simplest sense the GCCA+ project is helping to address climate change related issues, specifically coastal flooding and coastal erosion issues on the island of La Digue. For updates on the project please check out their FB page:

The UNDP project team comprises of Mr. Rodney Quatre and Mrs. Meggy Tirant.
Rodney is UNDP Project Manager for the EU funded GCCA+ project. With more than a dozen years’ experience in marine conservation, integrated coastal zone management and climate change issues, Rodney is a passionate conservationist for the environment, especially ocean related issues.
He attributes his philosophy for conservation to the Cree Indian quote-“Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money,” that our wealth and our health is intrinsically tied to the state of our natural environment.
Meggy is the UNDP Programme Assistant for the EU funded GCCA+ project. As a Diguois, Meggy is an invaluable asset to the project as she is familiar with all of the island’s inhabitants. This project is close to her heart as it is one way of supporting her community and her homeland.
Her motto is, “ The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
