It has started in 2014 as a small project meant to save the lives of a group of stray dogs who were threatened by the 'stray-killing' law. Ana Maria Ciulcu - the founder of SOS Dogs Romania - has started rescuing stray dogs at the early age of 13. At first, most of the rescues were accommodated in her own home or placed into monthly paid foster places. The food and medical costs were initially cov
ered by her family. In April 2014, media agency 'Reuters' published an article about her activity, gaining the attention and support of many animal lovers across the globe. We managed to build our own dog shelter in 2015 and we've been supporting a second animal shelter with over 200 animals since 2021. Our team is formed by several dedicated international volunteers, who are taking care of organisational tasks, our social media platforms and the adoption process of our animals. Our mission consists in rescuing as many strays as possible, offering them the medical care they need, keeping them safe and happy until we are able to rehome them, creating good living conditions for sick/senior dogs with low adoption chances and controlling the overpopulation of dogs and cats by organising spay & neuter campaigns. All of our animals get antiparasitic treatment, are fully vaccinated, microchipped, registered, sterilised (if not age restricted), tested for mediterranean diseases and own a health book and a passport by the time they get adopted. Most of our rescues get adopted abroad, so in order to transport them safely to their new forever homes and in accordance with legal requirements, we are relocating them through our licensed animal transportation company which uses Traces (TRAde Control and Expert System), a system that records all animal traffic within the EU and from and to the EU. If you can't adopt an animal, you can also make a huge difference by fostering one - locally or abroad - or by becoming a monthly sponsor. Since our organisation relies only on donations, every amount is welcome, no matter how small. We thank you for your support in the name of our rescues!
