We are a non-profit association that exists to integrate and protect the lives of migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon.

We exist with the aim of supporting and integrating isolated migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon. With a Christian ethos of respect for diversity and equity our purpose is to facilitate access to basic services, create employment opportunities and eliminate discrimination through intercultural exchanges regardless of skin, gender, ethnicity or religion. Our aim is to build a network of par

tnerships with existing institutions, working in collaboration to achieve a common goal of assisting migrants and refugees in Lisbon. Drawing on our community, we want to use our time, resources and skills to bring unity to Lisbon and a better quality of life to migrants and refugees in our city.

We are hiring, and we are so excited!

The Lisbon Project is looking for a PLA (Português Língua de Acolhimento) Teacher to lead our A1 Summer Intensive Course this July and August.

This is a short but mighty commitment:

12.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
July 13th through August 25th, 2026.
Compensation is €18/hour via Recibos Verdes.

Our students are migrants and refugees building a new life in Lisbon. Your classroom will be the place where language becomes belonging. That means meeting people where they are, honoring where they come from, and helping them feel at home in Portugal.

We are looking for someone who brings at least 2 years of teaching experience, a C2 or native level of Portuguese, and the kind of cultural warmth and curiosity that makes a classroom come alive.

Experience teaching migrants is a plus. You will be supported by a volunteer teacher, a dedicated coordinator, and a team that genuinely has your back.

Hoje, 20 de junho, é o Dia Mundial do Refugiado. Este ano tem um peso ainda maior, por coincidir com os 75 anos da Convenção de Genebra de 1951, um momento decisivo na forma como o mundo protege quem é forçado a fugir. O momento em que uma ideia foi escrita em lei: que todas as pessoas têm o direito de procurar refúgio.

Os números globais são difíceis de encarar: no final de 2025, cerca de 119,3 milhões de pessoas tinham sido forçadas a abandonar as suas casas devido a guerras, perseguições e violações dos Direitos Humanos. Atrás de cada número há uma pessoa, uma família, uma história.

Aqui em Portugal, a realidade é outra. Em 2025, 1759 pessoas pediram proteção internacional, apoiadas por um sistema de acolhimento construído ao longo de décadas pelo Estado e pela sociedade civil, lado a lado. Mas o Novo Pacto Europeu para a Migração e o Asilo entrou agora em vigor, e levanta preocupações reais às quais precisamos de estar atentos. Não é o momento de recuar na solidariedade que sempre nos definiu.

As pessoas que chegam trazem talento, resiliência e tanto para oferecer às nossas comunidades. Ficar em silêncio não é uma opção para nós.

So, how can you help?

Every person who arrives in Portugal with a suitcase and a hope deserves a community ready to receive them. That community is something we build together, and there is room for you in it.

Give. We take no government money. We are 100% community-funded, which means your 10 euros a month puts a warm meal in front of a real person every month. Right now, Lisbon Project needs to raise €9,000 by June 19th to fund summer programs. Check our stories for the link.

Visit. Join us for a Community Dinner or Family Friday. Both are free. Come as you are, meet your neighbors, and feel what belonging actually looks like.

Volunteer. We have open positions starting at just 6 hours a week. Your time is one of the most powerful things you can offer.

Migration in Portugal is not a news story. It is the story of real people building a life here, right now. Come help us write it.

Despite what the algorithms may say, the world isn’t all bad news right now. If you need proof, stop by on a Wednesday.

Our Community Dinner last week was a potluck, which means the menu came from everywhere. Community members and volunteers brought food from home, and our dear chef Mohsin brought his magic to the kitchen alongside a wonderful group of young volunteers from CISV, a global youth organization with a heart for peace and friendship.

Dishes from different countries, stories shared between bites, new faces becoming familiar ones.

This is our favorite part of Portugal: gathering around a table together. We’re proud to share that tradition with friends from around the world.

Our Community Dinners are free and open to all. Join us next time, and bring a friend.

Apesar do que os algoritmos possam dizer, o mundo não é só más notícias. Se precisas de prova, passa por cá numa quarta-feira.

O nosso Jantar Comunitário da semana passada foi um potluck, o que significa que o menu veio de todo o lado. Os membros da comunidade e os voluntários trouxeram comida de casa, e o nosso querido chef Mohsin trouxe a sua magia para a cozinha, acompanhado por um grupo maravilhoso de jovens voluntários da CISV, uma organização juvenil global com um coração voltado para a paz e a amizade.

Nine years ago, someone opened a door. 🚪❤️

And then another door opened. And another. And somehow, here we are: nine years later, still opening doors, still making room, still believing that everyone deserves to belong.

Through language classes, community dinners, job coaching, friendships, and open doors, we are proud of how far this community has come.

This is for every person who has ever walked through our doors: we are just getting started.

To keep funding classes, dinners, and community this summer, we’re working hard to raise €9,000 by 19 June.

Há nove anos, alguém abriu uma porta. 🚪❤️

This World Refugee Day, we are proud to stand alongside four organizations who have dedicated themselves to the same thing we have: making sure migrants and refugees in Portugal are seen, supported, and welcomed.

Each of these organizations works tirelessly for migrants and refugees in Portugal, and on June 19th, we come together to celebrate that shared mission with the communities at the heart of it all.
