Some streets are named for what they once held. This one still feels a little sweet.

Did you know? Rua do Açúcar is named after a former sugar factory.

Thank you to the Junta de Freguesia de Marvila for the photos.

He opens his TEDxMarvila talk mid-performance, a live aria from The Magic Flute, the same one he teaches in classrooms across Portugal.

António Wagner Diniz spent decades as an opera singer and ran Lisbon's National Conservatory. Today he brings live opera into schools in Portugal's poorest neighborhoods.

The moment that stays with you: a five-year-old who watched two singers perform an argument in song, and recognized her own parents fighting at home. For him, that's proof opera isn't entertainment, it's a way for children to finally see feelings they don't yet have words for.

On World Teachers' Day, that feels like exactly the right way to think about teaching.
