No surprises: more car lanes around your children’s school mean more pollution to poison their lungs and destroy their health.

Today is Children’s Day, and from has published a study about the air quality around 15 Lisbon schools.

The change depends on you: are you ready to forgo car ownership and demand pedestrianizing our streets, creating children-ready biking infrastructure and exclusive lanes for public transport?

The whole world must know about the harm we are causing to our kids by intoxicating them with exhaust fumes in the name of progress — while also stealing public space from them in the name of parking and driving them over in the name of speed.

Wonder why Paris is considered romantic? You can do some « flânerie », wandering without purpose.

Lisbon screams: look at me from your window, don’t get out, or else you’ll be driven over.

Paris loves itself. Why don’t we help Lisbon to absolutely adore itself?

It’s not culture, it’s infrastructure. In Utrecht, it took decades to understand that having 12 lanes is insanity mascarading as « freedom of movement ». It took almost two decades to undo the damage and welcome people, flowers, water and history back.

It’s in one of the hilliest neighborhoods of Lisbon that we should be looking for solutions to our mobility challenges.

Thousands of years of trial and error of city building converged at one truth: cities are meant for walking.

The car park beneath Alfama’s iconic viewpoint is a caricature of automotive hubris. With but 150 spots for cars, and not admitting bikes, it is a monument to how we should not spend our public money.

And then electric bikes are evenly scattered around, taking no space but providing uphill mobility.

The simple and clever ramps here and there show that when we don’t build streets for cars, but for people, the solutions already exist and they aren’t that complicated.

Follow Lisboa Possível to “see” our city. Only together we can undo the damage and preserve and expand its charm.

Vivemos no parque de estacionamento mais bonito do país. Somos o postal do “carmagedão”. Entupimos ruas, pulmões e a nossa imaginação.

Com a sabemos que não tem de ser assim. Outra Lisboa é possível. Basta pedonalizarmos as nossas ruas, criarmos ciclovias e faixas exclusivas para os transportes. Basta sermos tanto pragmáticos quanto poetas.

Portanto, podem partilhar, se quiserem que os amigos aprendam a ver.

Podem vestir uma t-shirt , se quiserem que não paremos 💚🚲💪.
