Thank you to the artists, musicians, residents, speakers, partners, crew, staff and, of course, the audiences for joining us at Rare Effect 2025. There are things we remember and others we forget, and we’re grateful for the memories, connections and conversations made during the weekend.

The festival was made possible with support from Arroz Estúdios, Well Read, Parallel Society Festival (taking place 7th March in Lisbon, link in bio!), and Reset! Network.

Logos Circles presented by Parallel Society Festival kicked off the conversation series at Arroz Estûdios for Rare Effect.

Meet Reset!, a one-day consortium in partnership with Arroz Estúdios, Well Read, Gerador and the Reset! network, is today from 11-17h.

Centering on the 2025 Reset! Network theme, “Reclaiming Physical Spaces for Community Empowerment”, the event will explore how communities can assert control over both physical environments and digital platforms to foster inclusivity, creativity, and ethical engagement, via keynote lectures, open roundtable sessions, and hands-on workshops from European Alternatives, 90mil, Colectivo Warehouse + with representation from Sirigaita, Colectividades em Luta, Discos Paraíso, and Casa Independente.

O Logos Circles, apresentado pelo Parallel Society Festival, deu início à série de conversas no Arroz Estúdios para a Rare Effect ontem.

Conheça o Reset!, um consórcio de um dia em parceria com a Arroz Estúdios, Well Read, Gerador e a rede Reset!, que acontece hoje, das 11h às 17h.

Com foco no tema da rede Reset! 2025, “Recuperando espaços físicos para o empoderamento da comunidade”, o evento explorará como as comunidades podem afirmar o seu controlo sobre os ambientes físicos e as plataformas digitais para promover a inclusão, a criatividade e o envolvimento ético, por meio de palestras e mesas redondas abertas. The festival kicked off last night at Well Read, with a full house roundtable discussion hosted by Natalia Domagala to celebrate the launch of her new book, ‘Uncovering Algorithms: Conversations on the Impact of AI’.

See you later at Arroz Estúdios, for the Opening Vernissage, featuring a live audio-visual set from Pearlmitted and Lunar Ring, and a b2b DJ set from Steven Rice and Kaitlyn.

In addition to the music offering, we’ll present the opening of the art installations, with work showcased from Cezar Mocan, 204 no-content & Burst, Parallel Society Festival and Planting AiR residents.

We’ll begin the evening with Parallel Society Festival, for a presentation of their ongoing work with Quinta do Mocha and a Logos Circle discussion at 17h, followed by a screening of Daniele Grosso’s latest film, COUNT.

Hiroma Keo is the verlan for Amaury Hocquet, a French born / Lisbon based nerd, selector, live performer and sound engineer who’s versatility is found in his DJ sets, where his love for curveballs, tribalism, deepness and psychedelia is showcased without compromising coherence and collective ecstatic bliss.

Telma is a Lisbon-based DJ and curator , known for her adventurous selections and generous energy behind the decks. Her sets unfold as borderless sonic explorations, weaving through electro, house and techno with an intuitive flair, yet always ready to swerve a genre-bending left turn into breakbeats and dub-bass heavy rhythms.

Hiromakeo and Telma go back to back, closing this edition of Rare Effect from 21:30-23h on Saturday, 8th November.

Neurodancer is a Lisbon-based DJ that has spent years on a steady diet of old & new records combining stark, robotic rhythms with haunting melodies and voices, always eager to deliver a large dose of machine funk to dark, smoke-filled rooms.

Banditst4r is a Brazilian DJ based in Portugal, navigating Electro, Breakbeat, Techno, and EBM. Her sets merge acid lines, industrial textures, and immersive atmospheres with raw intensity, turning the dancefloor into a space of freedom and connection.

Neurodancer and Bandist4r open Saturday night’s dancefloor, with a pulsing b2b from 20-21:30h @ Arroz Estúdios.

Rare Effect 2025 begins this week! On Saturday, we host a night of live performances, DJ sets, and art installations at Arroz Estúdios.

The closing concert takes deep listening and sonic vibrations as its inspiration. Opening with a performance from Planting AiR resident Du Gomes, and followed by the weaving ethereal melodies and rhythms from Porto-based artist Jejuno, the live music culminates with a set from Clothilde, one of Portugal’s most distinctive voices in experimental music.

The dance floor opens up with Lisbon-based darkwave diggers Neurodancer b2b Banditst4r, followed by the powerhouse pairing of scene stalwarts Hiromakeo b2b Telma. The DJ sets are accompanied by live visuals from .studio and , presented by .

O Rare Effect 2025 termina com uma noite de atuações ao vivo, DJ sets e instalações artísticas.

O concerto de encerramento tem como inspiração a escuta profunda e as vibrações sonoras. Cezar Mocan is a Lisbon-based artist and computer programmer interested in the interplay between technology and the natural landscape.

At this year’s Rare Effect festival, Cezar presents Exhibit A, part of “”A Field Guide to Orbital Melancholy,”” his long-term research project that explores a speculative future where planetary infrastructure develops its own interpretive layer of reality. The project centers on a simple, yet unsettling, premise: what if a satellite started lying about what it observes on the ground, becoming an unreliable narrator of the Earth below?

Cezar Mocan é um artista e programador informático sediado em Lisboa, interessado na interação entre a tecnologia e a paisagem natural.

No festival Rare Effect deste ano, Cezar apresenta Exhibit A, parte do seu projeto de investigação de longo prazo «A Field Guide to Orbital Melancholy», que explora um futuro especulativo em que a infraestrutura planetária desenvolve a sua própria camada interpretativa da realidade. O projeto centra-se numa premissa simples, mas inquietante: e se um satélite começasse a mentir sobre o que observa no solo, tornando-se um narrador pouco fiável da Terra abaixo?

Escafa777 and Alexander Garcia (aka Mr. Garpear) are the Planting A.I.R. residents in 2024. At this year’s Rare Effect, Escafa777 will perform new musical works created during his residency at 23h, and Mr. Garpear will display a newly painted mural from 18h.
 Established in 2021, PLANTING A.I.R - Artists in Residence is a residency at Arroz, with the aim of supporting young artists who come from low-income background. In addition to providing a studio and a monthly fee, the artists take part in an educational programme in digital art, blockchain and a programme of mentoring programme by the resident artists.

Escafa 777 is a Brazilian drill artist currently based in Lisbon, gaining recognition in the music scene. With an authentic blend of drill and other styles, he creates a distinctive sound characterized by powerful lyrics and dynamic beats. His music reflects personal experiences and the struggles of youth in marginalized communities, using art as a tool for expression and protest.
In Lisbon, Escafa 777 has found a new audience, earning praise for his innovative work and stance on social and political issues. Known for his bold approach and unique sound, he is emerging as one of Brazil’s most promising drill artists, resonating beyond borders and inspiring through music.

ALEXANDER GARCÍA was born in Bogotá Colombia, and is an urban artist, leader, social and cultural manager, considered one of the pioneers of urban art and graffiti in Bogotá. Known by the pseudonym PEAR or MR GARPEAR, his work is clearly empirical, both social and artistic, and he liked to explore and always improvise based on reality.
