Celebramos a liberdade como um marco histórico.
Mas a verdadeira pergunta é: ela chega a todos, da mesma forma?

Quando existem barreiras invisíveis, no acesso à educação, ao trabalho, à aceitação, a liberdade deixa de ser um direito pleno e passa a ser uma promessa por cumprir.

A liberdade não é só aquilo que conquistámos em 1974.
É aquilo que continuamos (ou não) a garantir todos os dias. ✊

Porque ninguém é verdadeiramente livre… até que todos o sejam. 🌹

We celebrate freedom as a historical milestone.
But the real question is: does it reach everyone equally?

When invisible barriers exist, in access to education, work, and acceptance, freedom stops being a full right and becomes a promise yet to be fulfilled.

Freedom isn’t just what was achieved in 1974.
It’s what we continue (or fail) to ensure every single day. ✊

Hoje assinala-se o Dia Internacional das Pessoas Ciganas! Sabias que o termo “Roma” é o mais correto e respeitoso? ✊🏽

Durante anos, a palavra “cigano” foi usada com uma carga negativa (e ainda hoje, em alguns contextos, continua a ser.)

O termo “Roma” passou a ser adotado internacionalmente, inclusive por organizações como a ONU e a União Europeia e significa simplesmente “pessoas”.

Mais do que uma palavra, é uma escolha de identidade, respeito e reconhecimento.

Porque a forma como falamos constrói realidades.

�Did you know that “Roma” is the most accurate and respectful term?

For many years, the word “gypsy” has been used with negative connotations (and in some contexts, it still is).

The term “Roma” is now adopted internationally, including by organizations like the UN and the European Union, and it simply means “people”.
More than a word, it’s a choice of identity, respect, and recognition.

80% das pessoas ciganas vivem em risco de pobreza, face a 16,8% da população geral, e que apenas 43% tinham emprego remunerado em 2020, comparando com cerca de 73% na população em geral

O projeto da Associação Rizoma "Desperta Romi", que significa "Ergue-te Mulher Cigana", pretende capacitar, apoiar psicologicamente e promover a autonomia social e profissional de mulheres ciganas em situação de vulnerabilidade.

Sobre as nossas sessões nas escolas 🤝✨

No Agrupamento de Escolas do Alto do Lumiar, as sessões ganham ainda mais significado quando são dinamizadas por mentores da própria comunidade Roma. Mais do que partilhar conhecimento, estas figuras tornam-se exemplos reais de percurso, mostrando que o caminho do estudo também lhes pertence.

Ao longo das sessões, crianças e jovens são incentivados a refletir sobre o seu futuro, a valorizar a educação e a acreditar nas suas capacidades.🧡

About our sessions in schools 🤝✨

At the Alto do Lumiar School Group, these sessions gain even greater meaning as they are led by mentors from the Roma community itself. More than sharing knowledge, these mentors become real-life role models, showing that the path of education belongs to them too.

Throughout the sessions, children and young people are encouraged to reflect on their future, value education, and believe in their potential.🧡

Conhecer a própria cultura é um passo poderoso para fortalecer a identidade! 🙌

Na última formação de História e Cultura Cigana, vivemos momentos de partilha genuína, onde a voz da comunidade esteve no centro. As duas participantes destacaram algo essencial: a importância de conhecerem melhor a sua cultura, as suas raízes e tudo o que as une.

Porque quando há conhecimento, há também mais orgulho, mais consciência e mais força para continuar a construir o futuro 🧡

In the latest Roma History and Culture training, we experienced moments of genuine sharing, where the voice of the community was at the center. The two participants highlighted something essential: the importance of getting to know their culture better, their roots, and everything that unites them.

Because with knowledge comes greater pride, deeper awareness, and more strength to keep building the future 🧡

O antigypsyism é agora reconhecido oficialmente na União Europeia como uma forma específica de racismo dirigida à comunidade Roma.

Durante séculos, esta discriminação manifestou-se através de estereótipos, exclusão social e desigualdades estruturais que muitas vezes passam despercebidas ou não são denunciadas.

A nova estratégia europeia reforça a necessidade de políticas baseadas em evidência, educação anti-racismo, proteção legal e inclusão real nas áreas da habitação, saúde, emprego e educação.

Reconhecer o antigypsyism é um passo importante. Combater o racismo estrutural exige compromisso coletivo, políticas eficazes e uma sociedade informada.

Partilha para ajudar a dar visibilidade à luta pela igualdade Roma.

Antigypsyism is now officially recognized in the European Union as a specific form of racism directed at the Roma community.

For centuries, this discrimination has manifested through stereotypes, social exclusion, and structural inequalities that often go unnoticed or unreported.

The new EU strategy highlights the need for evidence-based policies, anti-racism education, stronger legal protection, and real inclusion in housing, health, employment, and education.

Recognizing antigypsyism is an important step. Combating structural racism requires collective commitment, effective policies, and an informed society.
