There is only one requirement to be part of the Scouting Alumni community.
You need a story.
Not a title. Not a rank. Not a list of credentials or awards. Just a story about how Scouting shaped you, and how that impact continues to shape the lives of others through you.
That is what makes the Scouting Alumni community powerful. It is built on lived experience, not paperwork. There are no dues to pay and no uniform to wear. There is no handshake or membership card to carry. What connects us is something far more meaningful. We share moments that changed us, lessons that stayed with us, and values that still guide our decisions long after the badges were earned.
For many of us, Scouting was where we first learned to lead. Maybe it was planning a campout when everything went wrong and you had to figure it out anyway. Maybe it was standing in front of a group, nervous but determined, and realizing your voice mattered. Maybe it was discovering that service to others is not a requirement but a privilege.
Those experiences did not stay in the past. They traveled with us into classrooms, workplaces, families, and communities. The patience learned while teaching a younger Scout how to tie a knot becomes the patience we show a new colleague. The confidence built on a challenging hike becomes the courage to take on a new role. The commitment to leave a campsite better than we found it becomes a mindset to improve every team, project, and neighborhood we are part of.
This is the ripple effect of Scouting. One young person gains skills, character, and a sense of responsibility. Over time, that person becomes a mentor, a volunteer, a leader, a parent, a professional who lifts others up. The original impact multiplies in ways that are often quiet but deeply meaningful.
Scouting Alumni is a place to recognize and celebrate those ripples. It is not about looking backward with nostalgia, although the memories are worth cherishing. It is about acknowledging that the values we learned still matter, and that we are still living them out. It is about connecting with others who share that foundation and who continue to serve in their own ways.
Your story might be about resilience. It might be about friendship, belonging, or discovering a passion for the outdoors. It might be about a mentor who believed in you before you believed in yourself. It might be about the first time you realized you could make a difference in someone else’s life.
Whatever your story is, it belongs here. When we share these stories, we remind each other that character, service, and leadership are not abstract ideals. They are habits formed over time, often starting around a campfire, on a trail, or in a simple act of helping someone else.
If Scouting shaped who you are and how you show up for others, then you are already part of the Scouting Alumni community. All you have to bring is your story.
