SPAYING AND NEUTERING your pets is one of the best ways to help combat the homeless pet problem and the needless suffering and killing of innocent animals whose only "crime" was to have been born. Our first priority is to reduce the number of unwanted births. We accomplish this by making spay and neuter services affordable for those who might not otherwise spay or neuter their pets and for those w
ho want to rescue a stray. All of our funds are used to spay or neuter animals. We partner with The Pet Vet - a high volume/ high quality/ low cost spay and neuter clinic. They offer PAWS the lowest available price for these surgeries. We ask owners or rescuers to pay what they can and we pay the rest. ADOPTIONS/HELPING STRAYS is another goal for PAWS. We will help with the cost to spay or neuter puppies rescued from the street and we will help find them homes through the Pet Vet clinic, at our Walmart Adoption Days and two Saturdays a month at PetCo in Rio Piedas. PAWS will not put an unsterilized animal up for adoption and we do not have facilities to house stray animals. The rescuer must foster the animal until a home is found. We will pay part or all of the cost to spay a stray female that is surviving on her own on the street. This is called “Spay and Release” and is a viable form of reducing the number of stray animals. She is put back in her established area but she will not produce litter after litter of pups or kittens. EDUCATING people about the importance of spaying or neutering their pets and about proper care of animals is another goal for PAWS. We distribute educational materials with every adopted animal, at Walmart during an adoption event and at local pet fairs. ESTERILIZAR SUS MASCOTAS es una de las mejores maneras de enfrentar el problema de animales sin hogar y aliviar el sufrimiento de animales cuyo único pecado fue nacerse. Nuestra primera prioridad es reducir el número de nacimientos inesperados en las mascotas. Logramos hacerlo ofreciéndoles ayuda con el costo de esterilizaciones a las personas que no tienen con que pagarlo y a las que quieren rescatar un animal de la calle. Trabajamos con The Pet Vet – una clínica de alta calidad y precios económicos en esterilizaciones. Nos ofrecen estas cirugías al precio más bajo del área. Pedimos que los dueños o los que rescatan paguen lo que pueden y PAWS paga lo demás. ADOPCIONES/AYUDANDO ANIMALES REALENGOS es otra meta de PAWS. Ayudamos con el costo de esterilizaciones y ayudamos a buscarles hogar por la clínica The Pet Vet, en los días de adopción de Walmart en Isabela y dos veces al mes en Petco de Rio Piedras. PAWS no ofrece animales no esterilizados en adopción y no tenemos facilidades para cuidarlos. El dueño o la persona rescatando deben cuidar de ellos hasta que se les encuentre hogar. Pagaremos parte o todo el costo de esterilizar una hembra sobreviviendo en la calle. Esto se llama “Spay and Release” y es una manera viable de reducir el número de animales realengos. Se la devuelve a su lugar y sigue viviendo sin producir muchas crías sin hogar. EDUCANDO al público en cuanto a lo importante que es esterilizar sus mascotas y de cómo cuidar de los animales es otra meta de PAWS.
