When Nala first came into our care as part of Operation Chiweenie, she was exactly the kind of dog many people overlook.
A senior.
A rescue dog.
But if there is one thing we have learned through rescue, it's that age does not define a dog's future. Today, Nala is preparing to begin a ten-part evaluation process to become a certified therapy dog.
Think about that for a moment.
A dog who once needed rescuing may soon be helping heal others.
A dog who was discarded will now have the opportunity to bring comfort, companionship, and support to people who need it most.
This is why senior dogs hold such a special place in our hearts.
They are not "past their prime."
They are not "too old."
They are not waiting to fade quietly into the background.
They are still learning, still loving, still thriving, and still changing lives. Nala is proof that some of the most incredible chapters of a dog's story can happen long after most people stop looking their way.
As she begins this exciting new journey, we hope her story inspires others to open their hearts to a senior rescue dog. Because sometimes the dog everyone overlooks turns out to be exactly the dog the world needs.
We are so incredibly proud of you, Nala.
From rescue dog to future therapy dog.
Now that's what second chances look like.
