Are you lucky enough to spot hedgehogs in your garden? And you love them, right?
So according to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, here are some simple, practical actions that can make a real difference to our spiny visitors in our gardens.
🪵 Create wild spaces: Log piles, leaf heaps and untidy corners provide food and shelter
🦔 Add Hedgehog Highways: Create 13cm x 13cm gaps in fences help them move safely between gardens
⚠️ Check before you cut: Always look for wildlife before mowing, strimming or hedge cutting
🌿 Go organic: Avoid pesticides to protect hedgehogs and their food sources
🥅 Be net savvy: Raise garden netting 30cm off the ground and pack away sports nets when not in use
💧 Provide water: Leave out shallow dishes and keep them topped up, especially in warm weather
👀 Get involved from home: Become a hedgehog ‘spotter’ and help monitor populations
