The humble Tariktik.

🌳 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 in the Central Panay mountain range

Why are Dulungans called the “𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁”?

Dulungan hornbills drop seeds from the fruit they eat which causes widespread dispersal of trees in the forest. This means they also represent the health of the forest!

If their habitat is no longer healthy enough to provide them with nest holes and food, forests may not be able to provide for us humans, too! 🌱

Under Antique’s Provincial Ordinance No. 2000-4, Dulungan was declared as the official provincial bird of Antique. To further spread awareness, August was proclaimed as Dulungan month under Provincial Ordinance 2020-208.

The Province of Antique seeks to strengthen the commitment for campaigns on awareness and conservation of the Dulungan, recognizing their biological, ecological, and cultural importance in Panay, and for the Philippines!

Our Safeguarding Central Panay Mountains (CPM) project aims to partner with Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities (IPLCs), local government, and the public to conserve CPM for the long term. The CPM project is made possible thanks to Rainforest Trust and BirdLife International

Bilang katuwang sa pagpapaunlad ng mga pamayanang rural, buong pusong nakiisa ang PRRM–Rizal sa programang Libreng Gupit at Meryenda para sa mga bata ng Pinesville, Taytay, Rizal, kasama ang East Manila Eagles Club at CleanHAUL Environmental Services, Inc. nitong Aug 1, 2026.

Naniniwala ang PRRM–Rizal na ang tunay na pag-unlad ng isang komunidad ay nagsisimula sa pagbibigay-halaga sa kapakanan ng bawat mamamayan, lalo na ng mga kabataan. Sa pamamagitan ng simpleng gawaing ito, hindi lamang libreng gupit at meryenda ang naihatid sa mga bata, kundi maging ang mensahe ng pagkalinga, pagkakaisa at pag-asa para sa mas maliwanag na kinabukasan.

Naging masigla at makahulugan ang buong araw dahil sa mga awitan, palaro, tawanan at mga kuwentuhang nagpuno ng saya sa puso ng bawat bata. Higit sa lahat, ipinakita ng sama-samang pagkilos ng iba’t ibang sektor na ang isang matatag na pamayanan ay nabubuo sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan at malasakit sa isa’t isa.

Para sa PRRM–Rizal, ang ganitong mga programa ay mahalagang bahagi ng patuloy na pagsusulong ng inklusibong kaunlaran sa mga lokal na komunidad. Ang paglingap sa kabataan ay isang pamumuhunan para sa kinabukasan ng ating mga pamayanan, sapagkat sila ang magiging susunod na tagapagtaguyod ng pagbabago at pag-unlad.

Bagama’t isang araw lamang ang programang ito, ang mga ngiti at masasayang alaala na naiwan sa puso ng mga bata ng Pinesville ay magsisilbing paalala na sa likod ng bawat simpleng pagkilos ay may kapangyarihang magbigay ng inspirasyon at pag-asa sa buong komunidad.

Patuloy na naninindigan ang PRRM–Rizal sa kanyang adhikaing suportahan at palakasin ang mga pamayanang rural sa pamamagitan ng mga programang nakaugat sa malasakit, pagkakaisa at serbisyong makatao.

Final Fieldwork Completed: Tree Inventory and Assessment of Invasive Species
July 31, 2026 | PRRM Global Partnership Center, Silang & Dasmariñas, Cavite

The third and final day of fieldwork for the Tree Inventory and Assessment of Invasive Species at the PRRM Global Partnership Center was successfully completed today by PHILKAIROS technical team in coordination with DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) – Cavite.

The field team traversed the remaining sections of the property to complete the inventory, verify tree locations and mark identified invasive species. Among the most frequently documented trees during the survey were Palo Santo, Mahogany and Fire Tree, which will be included in the technical assessment for future ecological restoration planning.

With the field validation now complete, the project enters its documentation phase. The assigned Foresters will begin preparing the official inventory, data encoding, species verification and technical report next week.

This activity marks another significant milestone in PRRM–Rizal’s long-term environmental restoration initiative, which seeks to identify invasive tree species and provide science-based recommendations for their gradual replacement with native, endemic and fruit-bearing trees. Through this collaborative effort, the project aims to strengthen biodiversity, improve wildlife habitat and contribute to the development of a healthier, more resilient ecosystem.

PRRM-Rizal extends its sincere appreciation to the entire field team: PHILKAIROS and DENR PENRO–Cavite, PRRM GPC and all partners whose dedication and cooperation made the successful completion of this important undertaking possible.

PRRM–Rizal Joins DENR-Led Launch of Cleanest Barangay River Contest to Strengthen Community-Based River Conservation

Taytay, Rizal | July 30, 2026 – The Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM) – Rizal Chapter reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable community development by participating in the official launch of the Cleanest Barangay River Contest with the theme “Ilog Ko, Iniirog Ko,” organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Rizal, through the Manila Bay Site Coordinating and Management Office (MBSCMO) – Rizal.

The launch was held at the Function Hall of the Municipality of Taytay, bringing together representatives from national government agencies, local government units, barangay officials, environmental organizations, civil society groups and private sector partners committed to restoring and protecting the river systems of Taytay and Cainta.

Representing PRRM–Rizal was its Chapter Chairman, Mr. Joel Espineli, who participated alongside key stakeholders in expressing support for the initiative. The event highlighted the vital role of community participation in promoting proper solid waste management, river rehabilitation, environmental education and compliance with environmental laws.

The Cleanest Barangay River Contest seeks to inspire barangays to become active stewards of their waterways by recognizing exemplary efforts in maintaining clean, healthy and sustainable river systems. The program also aims to strengthen partnerships toward the shared goal of protecting the Manila Bay watershed.

As one of the invited partner organizations, PRRM–Rizal welcomed the opportunity to contribute its experience in community organizing, environmental conservation and sustainable development. The organization emphasized that healthy rivers are essential to resilient communities, biodiversity conservation and improved quality of life. The event reinforced the importance of multi-sectoral partnerships in addressing pollution and safeguarding the province’s water resources for future generations.

PRRM–Rizal expressed its appreciation to DENR-PENRO Rizal, MBSCMO-Rizal and the Municipality of Taytay and Cainta for spearheading this meaningful initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to support programs that promote environmental responsibility, climate resilience and sustainable resource management.

Through collective action and community engagement, PRRM–Rizal remains steadfast in advancing its mission of empowering communities while protecting the environment—one river, one barangay and one partnership at a time.

Mula sa PRRM–Rizal taos-puso naming binabati ang buong Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement sa ika-74 na anibersaryo.

Isang karangalan ang maging kabahagi ng kilusang may matibay na paninindigan sa paglilingkod sa ating mga kanayon. Nawa’y maging makabuluhang katuwang ang PRRM–Rizal Chapter sa pagpapatuloy ng misyong ito at sa sama-samang pagtataguyod ng mas maunlad at matatag na kanayunan.
