People often say, âThe most successful individuals came from strict teachers.â At first, it sounds harsh. Parang nakakatakot pakinggan. But if we look deeper, itâs not really about fear, itâs about discipline, structure, and accountability.
Before, teachers were firm. They corrected you when you were wrong. They didnât sugarcoat lessons. They pushed you to read, memorize, recite, and think. Hindi dahil galit sila, kundi dahil may pakialam sila. They wanted you prepared for real life, not just exams.
Ngayon, the system feels different.
Teachers are told to be âgentle,â âsoft,â âalways understanding.â Students can complain anytime. One wrong tone, one strict rule, viral agad. Instead of authority, teachers now walk on eggshells. Instead of discipline, puro sensitivity.
And sadly, we see the result.
Maraming bata hirap magbasa. Hirap sumunod. Konting pagsaway, âterror na agad.â Konting standards, âtoxic na agad.â
But life outside school isnât soft.
Workplaces demand deadlines. The world doesnât adjust to your feelings. Hindi pwedeng laging excuse ang ânahihirapan ako.â
Thatâs why discipline still matters.
A strict teacher doesnât mean abusive. It means consistent. Structured. Someone who says, âKaya mo âto, gawin mo nang tama.â Someone who corrects you today so you wonât fail tomorrow.
Sa totoo lang, many of us succeeded not because teachers were kind all the time, but because they were tough when needed.
Maybe what students need today isnât less discipline, but the right kind of discipline with compassion.
Because sometimes, the teacher you feared the mostâŚ
is the one who prepared you best for life.
