LYCKA P. DEMETERIO
Bachelor of Science in Criminology
Today, we are honored to share the inspiring journey of Lycka P. Demeterio, a testimony of God's faithfulness, perseverance, and the life-changing impact of the Sponsorship Program of Fire and Harvest Ministries Inc.
From the age of five, Lycka became one of the children supported by the Sponsorship Program. What began as an opportunity to attend school became a lifelong journey of hope, faith, and transformation. Through God's grace, the program faithfully supported her from kindergarten until she successfully graduated from college. She is also the fifth among her siblings to complete her education through Fire and Harvest Ministries Inc. Sponsorship Program—a beautiful testament to God's provision for their family.
Lycka grew up in a humble household with nine siblings, where providing even the basic needs was a daily struggle. Her parents worked tirelessly to care for their family, but meeting school expenses was often beyond their means. Becoming a sponsored child was truly an answer to prayer. The program provided her with school supplies, uniforms, tuition fees, allowance, educational activities, and many other necessities. More than easing the financial burden, it gave her confidence, encouragement, and the assurance that she was loved and valued. This inspired her to study diligently and pursue her dreams with determination.
Beyond educational support, the Sponsorship Program introduced Lycka to something even more valuable—a personal relationship with God. Through Bible lessons, church activities, and the guidance of caring mentors, she learned about God's love and faithfulness. These experiences shaped her character, strengthened her faith, and taught her to trust the Lord through every season of life.
Like many journeys, hers was not without challenges. There came a time when unexpected circumstances forced her to stop schooling. Watching her classmates continue while she was left behind was painful and discouraging. Yet instead of allowing disappointment to define her future, she chose to persevere. She held on to the belief that it is better to finish late than to give up completely. With renewed determination, she continued pursuing her education, trusting that every sacrifice and every act of support invested in her life would not be wasted.
Her walk with God also had its ups and downs. There were moments when she felt close to Him and seasons when she struggled and grew weary. Yet even during those difficult times, she remained confident that God had never left her. His constant presence strengthened her faith and eventually led her to fully commit her life to following Christ—a commitment she continues to cherish today.
One of the greatest trials Lycka faced came in May 2022, when her beloved father passed away. His loss brought deep sorrow to their family and tested her strength in ways she had never imagined. But even in the midst of grief, God's grace sustained her. She found comfort in her Heavenly Father's unfailing love and chose to honor her father's memory by pressing on with her studies and remaining steadfast in her faith. She carries with her the hope that her father would be proud to see her reach this important milestone.
By God's grace, Lycka earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Her graduation is more than a personal achievement—it is a testimony of God's faithfulness, the power of perseverance, and the incredible difference that compassionate people can make in someone's life.
Looking back, Lycka recognizes that the Sponsorship Program gave her much more than an education. It became a source of emotional strength during difficult seasons, encouragement when challenges seemed overwhelming, and spiritual guidance that continually pointed her toward Christ. It opened doors of opportunity, gave hope to her family, and helped shape the person she has become today.
With a grateful heart, she extends her deepest appreciation to everyone who became part of her journey. She is thankful to her sponsor, to all the mission workers who faithfully ministered to her; and most especially to the Mission Leader Ma'am Heidi, whose leadership, compassion, and dedication have allowed countless children like Lycka to experience God's love through this mission. Their love and support became instruments of God's goodness and faithfulness in her life.
One Bible verse has continually reminded Lycka to trust God's perfect plan:
"When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen." — Isaiah 60:22
This promise became her anchor throughout every delay, every hardship, and every victory. Today, as she begins a new chapter, Lycka desires to use the knowledge, skills, and values she has gained to serve others and become a blessing to her community. Above all, she remains committed to honoring God in everything she does, giving Him all the glory, honor, and praise for the wonderful work He has accomplished in her life.
To God be all the glory.
