From Panay to Northern Mindanao, the Iranun Development Council (IDC) delegation continued its learning journey in Misamis Oriental, engaging with the Macajalar Bay Development Alliance (MBDA), an inter-LGU alliance composed of the Province of Misamis Oriental and 14 coastal cities and municipalities surrounding Macajalar Bay.

The delegation was warmly received by the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental through Special Assistant to the Governor Mr. Celso Abucejo, and by the Municipality of Laguindingan through its Mayor, Atty. Roy Macua.

Through a presentation by Ms. Kimberly Augusto, Program Manager of MBDA, the IDC delegation gained insights into the alliance’s efforts in coordinating policies, strengthening coastal law enforcement, and implementing Integrated Coastal Management (ICM). These initiatives promote the sustainable use, protection, and rehabilitation of coastal and marine ecosystems, while fostering collaboration among government agencies, communities, and partners to support long-term environmental sustainability and livelihood development.

The tour also included a site visit to Aquamarine Park in Brgy. Tubajon, which highlighted its Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and ecosystem-based coastal resource management practices.

The IDC extends its sincere appreciation to MBDA for their warm hospitality and for generously sharing their experiences and best practices in coastal and inter-LGU governance.

As the final leg of the study tour, the IDC now looks ahead to translating these learnings into action by adapting relevant strategies and strengthening its alliance mechanisms to advance sustainable development and resource management across its member municipalities.

This activity concluded the IDC Study Tour on Inter-Local Cooperation, implemented by the Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG), with support from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID Philippines).
