𝗬𝗘𝗦..., 𝘸𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥 😓
We kicked off the 3rd week of August with the Phase 2 of Rhetoricus: Young Debaters Society tryouts starting yesterday! 1️⃣8️⃣
Wanna learn the ways of the masters? Hehe, just expected so, glad we were able to uncover the ancient procedures 👨🏫
Phase 2: August 18 – TBA ❄️
This phase will primarily comprise of a modified British Parliamentary debate format (Opening houses).
Modifications/Mechanics:
1. There will be two benches: Government and Opposition
2. Both benches shall have 2 speakers
3. One of the two speakers should ideally be constructive in nature;
4. while the other one should ideally be deconstructive and/or reconstructive in nature
5. There will be 3 groups of a three-man panel, each assigned a particular thematic topic
Three-man panel groups:
A: Ch**te || Queen || Maya
Themes: Fiction and Alternate Universes e.g. Philosophy, Technology, Health, Science, Ideologies, etc.,
B: Neema || Ayen || Michelle
Themes: Value-Based e.g. Religion, Gender, Social Movements, Family, Relationships, Art, Media, etc.,
C: Ayana || Zohra || Mitoy
Themes: Policymaking e.g. on Education, on Governance, on Social Policies, on Criminal Justice, on Economy, on Environment, etc.,
6. Matchups will be arranged by the club members
7. Each pair must either be Government or Opposition a maximum of two times (i.e. R1:Gov – R2:Gov – R3: MUST BE Opp & vice versa)
HOWs:
8. After matchups are sent, every two pairs should approach the three-man panel they were allocated to in their respective schedule and location
9. Both pairs must agree on a number from 1-10 to have a topic to debate on
10. There will be a maximum of 10 minutes of preparation time the moment the topic/question is revealed
11. Each constructive (first) speaker is allotted 5 minutes of speech time
12. After the first speakers have given their speeches, the second speakers follow, each with 5 minutes maximum to deliver their own speeches
13. The round officially concludes after the panel states the debaters may cross the house
Nature of Topics/Questions:

Rewritten format:
Should we have lived in a world where people have a strong predisposition to unself?
Rationale: Applicants won’t be burdened to cater to the motion type.
Scoring System:
1. Although a team sport, scores will be based on individual performance.
2. The ballot consists of three criteria:
a. Clarity & Delivery (Manner)
b. Logical coherence (Matter)
c. Structure (Method)
3. The maximum points for each criteria is 10 points, a total of 30 points.
4. The elimination procedure will be categorized by level and rankings.
5. Top ranking individuals will proceed to the next phase.
I know, thrilling right? Anyway, due to this day being declared a holiday, we have halted the arena and shall continue tomorrow. 🤺
