Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Day is observed every 1 August to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of Marine Protected Areas in conserving marine biodiversity, supporting sustainable fisheries, strengthening coastal resilience, and protecting the ocean for future generations. It was first launched in 2021 and has grown into a global observance supported by the UN Ocean Decade.
