Even beyond Pride Month, protecting Filipino adolescents from violence and bullying remains urgent.

A PIDS study using data from the Longitudinal Cohort Study on the Filipino Child (LSCFC) looks at how experiences of domestic violence and bullying vary by s*xual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE) among Filipino adolescents.

The study finds that:

๐ŸŒˆ 14.0% identified as s*xual minority
๐Ÿ  Sexual minority adolescents had 1.7x higher odds of exposure to domestic violence
๐Ÿ“š They also had 2.1x higher odds of experiencing repeated and intentional bullying
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Gender expression also mattered, with different risks observed among gender non-conforming girls and boys

These findings show why child protection, school anti-bullying responses, and better SOGIE-sensitive data must work together to ensure that no child is left behind.

OSEA is proud to share that two of our dedicated members, Arriane Godilo and Laarne Gelilio, successfully participated in "Beyond the Grind: Mental Health Forum & Team Building Activity." This two-day overnight event was organized by the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) and held at the scenic Camp Toril Farm, Resort & Camping Site in Sta. Magdalena, Sorsogon.

The comprehensive program featured vital mental health sessions covering the basics of mental well-being, unique reflective exercises like the โ€œKamusta kana Selfโ€ moral activity, and strategic planning sessions for upcoming Lingo ng Kabataan activities. Beyond the forum discussions, our representatives immersed themselves in team-building exercises, a farm tour, and a hike to Sta. Magdalena Falls.

We extend our gratitude to the LYDO Bulan and SK Federation for organizing this essential safe space for local youth leaders.

With renewed perspectives and stronger bonds, Arriane and Laarne are ready to bring these valuable mental health insights and experiences back into OSEAโ€™s community initiatives. Let's keep moving forwardโ€”together! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’š

An magmoot na wara ulang an tunay na KATALINGKASAN

Hereโ€™s to the freedom to love out loud, choose our own paths, and build spaces where everyone belongs. Pride is not just a celebration; it is a daily practice of creating refuge for one another and breaking down old barriers.

Volunteers from Operation Sexual Education and Awareness (OSEA), a fellow youth-led organization based in Bulan, also took part in the implementation of the program by assisting in activities and overall event coordination.

By strengthening the capacity of educators, Project ALERTO helps essential DRRM knowledge reach thousands of students annually and contributes to cultivating a stronger culture of preparedness in our communities.

We sincerely thank DepEd Sorsogon for mobilizing teacher-participants and supporting the visibility of the program, LGU Bulan and the Bulan MDRRMO for providing funding and logistical support, UPRI for generously sharing their expertise, and the OSEA volunteers for their invaluable hands-on assistance throughout the event. Most importantly, we thank our participants for their openness, energy, and commitment to building safer and more resilient communities through education.

We hope to bring the program to more communities and continue empowering educators and young people with the knowledge needed to understand risks, strengthen preparedness, and build resilience together.

True empowerment begins when we equip our youth with the right guidance and knowledge. OSEA was deeply honored to collaborate as an advocacy partner for the impactful youth seminar entitled "GABAY: Mulat na kaisipan, ligtas na kinabukasan: Edukasyong sekswal para sa kabataan."

This meaningful event was made possible through the joint efforts of the proactive Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) Students of Sorsogon State University โ€“ Bulan Campus and the dedicated Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay JP Laurel. Recognizing the vital importance of reproductive health awareness, OSEA joined hands with these young leaders to facilitate essential discussions on comprehensive s*x education, personal boundaries, and safety.

OSEA extends its warmest gratitude to the SSU-BC BPA students for their community-driven leadership, and to the SK Officials of Barangay JP Laurel for prioritizing the health and holistic education of their youth. Thank you for trusting OSEA to be part of this vital guidance system!

Advocacy knows no boundaries! OSEA is thrilled to share a massive milestone as we officially crossed municipal lines for our very first engagement in the municipality of Matnog, Sorsogon!

We were deeply honored to partner with the progressive Sangguniang Kabataan SK and the dedicated Local Youth Organization of Brgy. Hidhid, Matnog for an impactful community session. Recognizing the urgent need for accessible health information, OSEA led a comprehensive and vital discussion centered entirely on HIV and AIDS Education.

OSEA extends its deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to the SK Officials and the Youth Organization of Barangay Hidhid for reaching out, trusting our team, and pioneering this partnership.

This first step into Matnog marks the beginning of an expanded horizon for OSEA, and we look forward to more cross-border collaborations that champion youth health education.

Finding time to pause, listen, and learn is vital for the growth of our youth. OSEA was honored to collaborate with the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay San Juan Bag-o as a partner for their impactful youth activity entitled "Reconnect and Reflect 2026."

In a shared effort to build a more informed, inclusive, and compassionate community, OSEA led crucial awareness discussions centered on three deeply intertwined areas: HIV and AIDS Awareness, SOGIE and Youth Mental Health. Through these open dialogues, the team focused on breaking stigmas, providing accurate information, and helping create a safe, supportive environment where the youth of San Juan Bag-o could ask questions, reflect on their well-being, and embrace their authentic selves.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to SK San Juan Bag-o for their proactive leadership in bringing these essential health and identity conversations to the forefront. Thank you for welcoming OSEA into your community, and to all the youth participants who showed up, engaged, and reflected with usโ€”thank you for your vulnerability and active participation!

Together, let's keep reconnecting with our roots and reflecting on how we can better support one another.
