Question: What is Doxypep?

Answer: DoxyPEP is an antibiotic that you take after s*x to help prevent certain bacterial s*xually transmitted infections (STIs), including chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea. The name stands for doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis. When taken within the recommended time after s*x, it can significantly reduce your risk of getting these bacterial infections.

Seven years ago, I was convinced I had HIV.

Looking back, I had almost every reason to be afraid. I had tuberculosis and was losing a lot of weight. My gums bled heavily for days. I was diagnosed with gonorrhea. I even had a seizure, collapsed, and was admitted to the hospital for five days without a clear diagnosis. During that admission, I was advised to take an HIV test—but I refused.

I was terrified.

I didn’t want to know. Or maybe I thought I already knew.

The years passed. My tuberculosis became worse. Then I developed shingles and experienced severe fevers. Every new illness only reinforced the story I had been telling myself: “I have HIV.”

Finally, I found the courage to get tested.

Even before the results came back, the healthcare worker who first assessed me seemed convinced I was positive. I went through the counseling, prepared myself for the worst, and waited.

Then the result came.

"Non-reactive."

It was one of the most emotional moments of my life.

What I had experienced were serious health conditions—including tuberculosis and s*xually transmitted infections—but those symptoms alone could not diagnose HIV. Many illnesses can share similar signs, which is why self-diagnosis can be so misleading.

For years, fear kept me from knowing the truth. I allowed anxiety and worst-case assumptions to speak louder than facts. Looking back, I realize I spent so much time carrying a burden that wasn’t mine to carry.

If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my story, it’s this:

Don’t let fear stop you from getting tested. Don’t diagnose yourself based on symptoms or what you read online. Get the facts. Get tested. Seek medical advice.

Knowing your status isn’t something to fear—it’s an act of courage, responsibility, and self-care.

Let’s continue educating ourselves, break the stigma around testing, and encourage one another to choose truth over fear.

A Hug

Many people don't realize just how powerful a hug can be. For some, it's simply a friendly gesture or a way of greeting someone. But a hug is so much more than that. It's a simple act that can bring comfort, remind us that we're not alone, and make us feel seen and cared for.

We hug the people we love to express affection, support, friendship, and compassion. Yet beyond those emotions, a hug has the power to heal in ways we often overlook. Unlike words, a warm embrace can communicate understanding, acceptance, and reassurance without saying anything at all.

Research has shown that healthy physical touch plays an important role in our overall well-being. A hug can help ease stress, reduce anxiety, lift our mood, and even provide comfort during times of pain, illness, or sadness. Sometimes, knowing that someone is there to hold you through life's difficult moments is exactly what you need to keep going.

Physical touch is a vital part of being human. Even in a world where technology keeps us constantly connected, nothing can truly replace the warmth and comfort of genuine human contact. As our lives become more digital, it's important that we continue to nurture real, meaningful connections with one another.
The embrace of someone who truly cares can mean more than words ever could. A hug offers comfort, hope, and strength when we need them most. It reminds us that we are loved, supported, and never alone.

Sometimes, a hug is all we need to feel a little better. A simple embrace has the power to heal hearts, lift spirits, and remind us that love is always within reach. After all, hugs are one of life's most universal forms of healing.

In celebration of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, HIV Awareness Campaign Group-The Project Embrace stands in unity with the global community, honoring the lives lost and supporting those living with HIV.

This moment is more than remembrance—it is a call for compassion, awareness, and action. Together, we light candles not just for those we’ve lost, but for the love, strength, and stories they left behind.

Let this glow remind us to choose compassion over judgment, awareness over silence, and unity over stigma. No one should walk in fear—only in dignity, care, and hope.
