Abacan River and Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council, Inc. (ARAW-ACI) Executive Director Mini Arceo was a resource speaker during an Environmental Talk organized by the Clark Electric Distribution Corp. for its employees on October 16, 2026 at the CEDC - Clark Electric Distribution Corporation office.

Key topics discussed by Arceo include tree-growing, community volunteerism, and El Niño preparedness, among others, to learn about watershed conservation and climate resilience and to develop action strategies.

Clark Electric said the initiative aims to promote environmental awareness within the company such as zero-waste practices as well as reducing residual waste, improving waste diversion, and banning single-use plastics.

Aside from tree-planting activities, ARAW-ACI continues to intensify its advocacy to raise environmental awareness within the community.

Present during the talk were Clark Electric AVP and Head of Regulatory Management RJ David and Safety Supervisor Argien Naguit.

Clark Electric is one of ARAW-ACI's partners in protecting the Angeles watershed.

The Balibago Waterworks Systems, Inc, (BWSI), in partnership with the Abacan River and Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council, Inc. (ARAW-ACI) and the Kapatirang Aetas ng Angeles-Porac para sa Kalikasan at Agrikultura (KAAPKA), re-affirmed its commitment to the protection and reforestation of the Sapangbato watershed by planting 1000 seedlings today, October 16, 2026, at Sitio Bliss, Barangay Sapangbato, Angeles City.

The planting activity is the water company’s fifth at their 10-hectare adopted site where they plan to plant 10, 000 trees over the next few years.

“BWSI aims to protect and rehabilitate the watershed and save Clark water resources. Project 10,000 is one of the flagship CSR programs of Balibago Waterworks,” BWSI President Criselle Alejandro said.

“We believe that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility amongst all sectors of society. We want a future that sustains life where no one is left behind,” Alejandro added.

She stressed their advocacy goes beyond protecting nature, pointing out that it is also about protecting the lives, culture and rights of indigenous people.

The activity is also in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month, honoring BSWI’s Ayta partners for their hard work, their deep connection to the land their valuable role as stewards.

Present at the tree-plating activity were ARAW-ACI President Rene “Abe” Tayag, Vice President Sonny Dobles Jr., KAAPKA President Henry Pan, Soliman E.C., the Nagkakaisang Guardians, and the Angeles City Environment Natural Resource Office (CENRO).

The Angeles City Local Government commemorated on October 9, 2026 the 111th birth anniversary of Renato "Katoks" D. Tayag, Sr. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Angeles City Library and Information Center.

The event was organized by the Abacan River and Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council, Inc. (ARAW-ACI) in partnership with the Angeles City Local Government and the Pampanga Press Club (PPC).

The commemoration was attended by ARAW-ACI President Ricardo Rene "Abe" O. Tayag and officers, Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo "Pogi" G. Lazatin, Jr., Angeles City Mayor Carmelo "Jon" Lazatin II who was represented by Public Information Officer Jose Aubrey "Jay" Pelayo IV, Vice Mayor Amos Rivera, Punto! Central Luzon Editor Caesar "B**g" Lacson, Pampanga Press Club President Lincoln M. Baluyut, Angeles City Librarian Erma R. Manalo, and Councilor Atty. Jessel Dayrit.

Also in attendance were Tayag’s family, including his sons Claude and Gerry Tayag.

Tayag is remembered not only as a civic leader but also as a practicing journalist. He wrote for the Manila Times in 1964 and was noted for his stories about Red China. He was one of the early members of the Pampanga Press Club.

In October 1972, he and his family donated a 1,690-square-meter lot to the Angeles City government to be used for a city library that would house Filipiniana and Law sections. The donation was a manifestation of his love for the city and his desire to share his passion for history, journalism, law, and culture and the arts with young Angeleños.

He later served as a director of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) for 20 years until his death on August 13, 1985.

During the ceremony, ARAW-ACI presented a resolution requesting the Angeles City Council to declare October 9 as Renato "Katoks" Tayag Day in honor of his contributions to the city.

ARAW-ACI's long-time partner Porac Bank once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship by planting 500 trees in Sapangbato today, September 25, 2026, as part of its continuing advocacy for the rehabilitation and reforestation of the watershed.

Porac Bank President and CEO Connie C. Tayag led the activity together with bank employees. Also present were ARAW-ACI President Rene "Abe" Tayag and members of the Kapatirang Aetas ng Angeles-Porac para sa Kalikasan at Agrikultura (KAAPKA).

Porac Bank is part of the Adopt-a-Watershed Reforestation Program (AWRP) and has been a partner of ARAW-ACI since August 2022.

𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐩 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲

Volunteers from various organizations joined the observance of World Cleanup Day 2026 on September 19 with a cleanup drive along the Abacan River in Barangay Pampang.

Led by Balibago Waterworks, the activity brought together partner organizations including the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MACCii), ARAW-ACI, Soliman EC, Nagkakaisang Guardians, and the Philippine College of Criminology (PCCR).

A total of 180 volunteers participated, removing plastics and other solid waste from the river as part of the global environmental campaign.

Other participating groups included the Office of Rep. Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin Jr., Angeles City Veterinary Office, BJMP, and Barangay Pampang LGU.

The cleanup began at 6 a.m., highlighting the importance of community participation in keeping waterways clean and protecting the water resources.

Learning, growing, and practicing kindness for the planet took center stage at Cornucopia 2026 held yesterday, September 11, 2026 at the Brightwoods School.

Organized by the Brightwoods School and Happy Earth Eco, this year's Sandbox Sessions featured deep dives into Bokashi composting — turning food waste into rich soil — and a Kahampatan culinary demo showcasing sustainable, local ingredients from Indigenous people.

Speakers for the session were Chefs Lao Castillo and Marielle Capuno.

Brightwoods School is one of the partners of ARAW-ACI and supporting the activity brought environmental education to life.

Through Cornucopia, the students did not just learn about sustainability — they're living it, together.
