International Womenโs Day 2026 which was commemorated globally on Sunday 8 March, will be celebrated tomorrow in the Sepik under the theme โRights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girlsโ.

"๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ง๐ผ ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป": A widely adopted campaign theme highlighting that when individuals and organizations invest in women, everyone gains through stronger societies.
These themes encourage action to ensure equal rights, safety, and opportunities, aimed at fostering a more equitable future.
Tomorrowโs activities will begin with a Public March Awareness Event from Wewak Town Market area along Meni Beach to Sir Michael Thomas Somare Stadium. About 1,000 participants including school children will join the march through Wewak town with banners carrying messages on womenโs rights and International Year of the Women Farmer 2026, which will also be launched during the celebrations.
After official speeches by dignitaries, performance including an International Womenโs Day Song, reading of poems by students from Brandi and Mercy Secondary and a Cooking Competition will add colour to the celebrations.
Cocoa, Vanilla and Fisheries farming groups supported by the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations (FAO) through the EU-STREIT PNG Programme with the support of local business houses will put on display as well their products and services.
The celebration is a joint effort by East Sepik Provincial Administration with the support of EU-STREIT PNG in collaboration with Wewak community MSMEs and Farming communities through a local Organizing Committee.
