It is a national holiday here in PNG. It is the fifth anniversary of the passing of Sir Michael T. Somare, founding father of PNG.
OIPNG was asked by the Keram LLG to apply for a minor works project to maintain a classroom in Samban in 2014. After looking at the building it was deemed cheaper to just take the old building down and build a new one in its place.
After the classroom was completed the opening ceremony was held and Sir Michael T. Somare cut the ribbon on the new classroom.
It was an amazing honor to have the first prime minister of PNG and the current governor of the East Sepik cut the ribbon on a project we built.
It was a special day in the history of OIPNG.

We would like to thank Papindo for donating school desks and chairs to Samban Central Elementary School and Keram International Christian School. This is a timely gift since school is starting and many students would’ve been without a desk or a chair. Since we are a four hour PMV ride from town plus an additional three hours by boat or motor canoe the desks and chairs had quite a trip to make it to the destination. Nevertheless, we are thankful for Papindos generosity for giving these items to the school for the students use. We are grateful to have these tools provided to assist with the students education.

All of us at OIPNG have heavy hearts this afternoon after learning of the passing of Dr. Linda Tamsen. She was a leader in health for the East Sepik Province and PNG. A great proponent of the work here in Samban, and always willing to help our patients when they arrived in Wewak. She will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
