I AM Change Inc. Helping Build the Human Resource of Papua New Guinea. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of the association is to;

1.

Assist the underprivileged to have at least one child in a nuclear family to have access to further education.

2. Build a network of volunteers and like minded throughout the nation by being an avenue for people to give back on their communities.

3. Create opportunities where the youth on the streets, school students, mothers/fathers at home, etc, explore and market their potentials by organizi

ng events/activities that would assist in marketing their talents and skills which will also concurrently create income for the purposes of this organization.

4. The idea of involving almost every level in the society as outlined above is to provide an avenue which adds value to the lives of people by helping build individuals confidence, skills and talents through public exposure, competition, etc. In that way, we not only achieve our primary purpose described but also ultimately aiming at helping to build the human resource of PNG collectively.

Those who have just followed us, a little brief about us.

We are a locally founded organisation that has no affiliation to any other organisation. This year is our 10th year of operations. Our focus is Human Resource Development in PNG.

We are sustained by unpaid volunteers based on the concept 'Service for Service'. We do volunteer onboarding periodically or when needed, depending on the progress of previous batch's volunteers. If there are issues, we fix it before we recruit more - quality over quantity.

We have 3 categories of Volunteers

1. General Volunteers
People who don't have time to get fully involved but are available when we need them, especially for events, public activities or when they want to help improve the organisation at their own pace. It's just an avenue to give when they can. Busy workers and students are in this category.

2. Trainees
There are two types;
*Trainees who work under Facilitators based on a Trainee Program that should go for 3 months or more if number of hours are not reached or performance is unsatisfactory. Focus is to acquire upskill with on-the-job training in a short period.
*Leadership and Management Trainees
This group of young people stay with the organisation for 3 or more years. Focus is to build leaders who can create or lead other groups sustainably.

3. Regulars
Regulars are the engine room. They do the work that keeps the organisation going. There is no time limit to their engagements except that they are always available. We keep tabs on them to ensure our goals are achieved.

We also have membership
This is for those who want to support our work and also be engaged in decision making.
Regulars have to volunteer for more than 3 months in order to qualify to be a member. They pay a fee while those in Leadership automatically become members.

For queries or for collaboration, email us to have access to our profile.

Cheers!

The Resilient - Miss Lillian Tounokon

A lot of school leavers will relate well with Lillian - school fee constraints, lack of opportunities, anxiety, pressure from family, but know that all those and more negativity don't define you, just like her, her resilience took her further.

She wanted us to share this with you. Hope to encourage others to not just join us to benefit but capture our vision & run with it.

"From a young age, I developed a love for reading just about everything and anything. It was stories about world leaders of the past and present that inspired me the most because I found many of them had to overcome great difficulties in their life to become the people they were. This gave me hope and I knew I too would one day become someone amazing and help make things better.

The difference between my leadership capabilities before joining IAC Inc. and afterwards, I would say that I’ve become more matured and realized it is important to be empathetic and lead as a servant. Before joining IAC Inc. I was less compassionate and impatient with people who had slower thought processes and when carrying tasks out. Because I somehow learnt to suppress my own emotions and look beyond the negative situations in my life, I unconsciously expected that others to also do the same. But then having joined IAC I learnt to be patient with people and go before them in doing things so they’d see and also in their own ways change for themselves.

The leadership training particularly helped me become a better public speaker. It has also helped me to break out of my past personality of introversion and now I am more of an ambivert. In the past I found it hard to simply go out there and make meaningful connections with people. Today I’d say I have truly grown from a socially exclusive person to one that loves been in settings that are empowering and positive.

I’ve learnt a lot whilst volunteering with IAC three skills I’ve applied through my leadership whilst in college are as follows;
*One is public speaking. I’ve not only used this skill for my own benefit but also tried to teach those around me with what I knew to help them become confident during presentations, social events, and in their own personal lives.
*Two is networking, this skill helped me create connections with student associations in other institutions in Madang and also create more stronger mutual bonds with the different student groups within the school.
*Strategic planning and management, through IACs SPAM Training I did not specifically apply this skill but bits of it in my role as the SRC Secretary and in other Leadership roles I held in the school.

My perspective on Youth and Women in Leadership truly changed when I joined IAC. I was too loud and too energetic but eventually as time went by I saw that as a young person I needed time to harnesss my leadership skills and as a women I didn’t need to compete with any male because I stood out in my own feminine ways. I could make a difference and so as a male counterpart. In fact I needed the male perspective to make decisions that was beneficial and for the greater good.

I’d highly recommend that you join IAC. Just join if you’re free and lost with what to do with your life especially for the unemployed youth and those not in school.

I am quite young to be really giving advice but for those younger than me, I’d love to share that where you are right now is all according to God’s timeline. Don’t rush the process in fact try to practice gratitude daily. Gratitude really makes you appreciate challenges and the simple blessings in life.

How to Apply

1. Do a 2-minute pitch
2. Upload the video to your Google Drive
3. Send us the link together with your cover letter.

What is expected of the pitch?
The pitch simply explains why you think you are the best candidate for the role. It is presenting your cover letter and CV orally that has to be recorded as a video.

Why pitch? It is part of the Training, whether you get accepted or not, you learn in the process. You might need to record several before deciding on the best. You might need to learn video editing to remove the "uhms" and "ehs" to keep within time. You analyse your public speaking skills and language articulation. Usually, only serious applicants will apply because pitching is not easy if you are new to it - it takes practice.

Those up for the challenge, email us at [email protected]

All the best!

VOLUNTEER LIMELIGHT
(RB PART 3)

Safety is a top priority in any high-performing, compliant organisation.

We may lack knowledge or be ignorant, but there are standards in place that we can capitalise on to keep our volunteers aware of hazards, implement mitigation strategies to stay safe and healthy, and be conscious of our environment.

Therefore, to maintain compliance with standards, Health, Safety, and Environment Hazard/Risk Analysis is crucial for our volunteers.
As such, Robert's experience in OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) is a bonus to us. According to our QMS requirements, he developed the checklists required to ensure our volunteers work safely.

Robert is scheduled to train our PNG team in Safety, Health, and Environment Risk/Hazard Analysis. This also enables our volunteers to gain experience in this area, as it is compulsory in many workplaces.

Thanking Robert for the efforts so far with IAC Inc. And to all our volunteers, let's continue to contribute, build and learn as we grow together.

VOLUNTEER LIMELIGHT
(RB PART 2)

Every year, we stop activities in November and resume in February. However, we continue with Training in December and January for the Leadership. This is to equip them to lead their teams well and most importantly, strategically.

Robert shares what he learnt. His work with us towards implementation of what he learnt on QMS is commendable. He also leads our QMS SHE Policy team and so the write up of our JSHEA (Job Safety Health Environment Analysis) which we will share more in detail tomorrow.

"What I learnt from IAC - Let me be frankly honest that while being with I AM Change, the following are key lessons I learnt.

1. In many organisations, compliance to standards especially international standards (ISOs) is just significant that it gives integrity, trust, and put the organisation at the right angle and making it standout in the global market especially when you are offering services.

2. Additionally, I learnt in IAC that Quality Management system in organisation is having good framework of policies, procedures (SOPs), processes that design to meet customer requirements and regulatory standards. I learnt that QMS is an international standards required from any organsation. Having QMS in your organisation is in itself compliance to ISO 9001.

3. Passively, I learnt that leading people without a physical office, like IAC, requires great patience, flexibility and understanding. Not all people will be online at the same time, not all have access to reliable internet connectivity or even latest hardware. This teaches me great lesson of patience, understanding and consistence in communication. While being the acting assistant manager at previous company, where all staff were at same location and under one physical roof, the working environment and culture is quite opposite to IAC working culture.

' IAC is only for the strong ', a volunteer once said. This is true because you use your own resources and make time to carry out the work that doesn't pay you. Moreover, the results are not overnight but they surely come with experience. One thing that will resound throughout the generations of IAC volunteers is such people as Robert because in the end, volunteers benefit well of the time and resources sacrificed to be part of us.

We appreciate you Robert!

Here Robert has to pay to charge his devices in preparation for Training. He lives outside of Goroka where there is no electricity.
