Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club

Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club Welcome to the Official Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club's page. Whangamata SLSC was officially formed on 1 December 1949.

We now boast a strong membership base and have some of the best club facilities within Surf Life Saving in New Zealand. Whangamata SLSC hosts full time professional patrols during the peak summer period, and has a strong Junior Surf programme which caters for children under 14 years old. Whangamata, being the largest surf club on the Coromandel Peninsula, often assists other clubs in trainings and large scale rescues.

It is National Volunteer Week, and we want to say a huge thank you to every single person who gives their time, energy, and heart to Whangamatā Surf Life Saving Club ❤️🖤🤍

Our club is built on volunteers. From our lifeguards on patrol, the search and rescue squad, coaches, instructors, officials, committee members, bar and event helpers, fundraisers, junior surf whānau, and everyone who quietly steps in behind the scenes, we simply could not do what we do without you.

Every hour given helps keep our beach safer, supports our members, and strengthens our club.

To all of our volunteers, past and present, thank you for showing up for our club, our beach, and our people. We are so grateful for you.

Super cool to see one of our lifeguards, Daniel Lewis, featured in the latest Whangamata News!

Daniel is a lifeguard, Search and Rescue Squad training member, Lifeguard Committee member, IRB racing team member, and legend around the club.

It’s awesome to see Daniel recognised for the time, energy, and commitment he gives to surf lifesaving and our wider community. His passion for the club and for helping others really shines through.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been putting in extra time and effort around the Club recently 🌱👏🏼

You may have noticed some fresh topsoil and grass seed out the front of the Club. A big thank you to Willie and EPL Construction for donating labour and machine hire to spread the topsoil, generously donated by Bryan Black.

This is part of a longer-term plan to continue improving the front of the Club, helping protect against the elements, guide foot traffic, and create a more natural coastal frontage.

A massive thank you as well to Paul, Ty, and the wider SAR crew for all the extra mahi around the Club — w**d eating, leaf blowing, rubbish removal, reorganising sheds, and helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

We really appreciate everyone pitching in to help maintain and improve our Club spaces 💛
