Mariners are advised to exercise caution when crossing the Westport Bar, position 41°43.80’ South, 171°35.25’ East.

Latest soundings show depths of less than 1.5 metres of water in an area from the Tip Heads extending out to 0.2 nautical miles (about 370 metres) offshore.

Because of these shallow areas, vessels are advised to cross the bar only from one hour before high tide until one hour after high tide.
