Kia Ora Whānau,
Apologies for the late post.
Last Friday after school, our 360° Rangatahi headed down to Whanganui for our annual fishing trip weekend.

On Saturday afternoon we also shot through to Foxton to visit Off The Loop Water Park. What an amazing place that was! Once we were back in Whanganui, we finished the day with a talent show and birthday cake to celebrate Catherine’s big day.

Sunday was a bit of a sleep-in for most before heading back out for another fish.
After lunch we packed up and started the trip home, with a quick stop in Taihape for the famous gumboot throwing competition.

Awesome memories made, lots of laughs, and great time spent together as a 360° whānau. 🎣

Yesterday was all about teamwork and building confidence for our rangatahi on the Waiouru Assault Cse.

We were lucky to be taught by the amazing CPL H, one of our local Waiouru gym staff.

She covered a lot of great information, with the main focus being on correct landing techniques.

It was awesome seeing our rangatahi step up to the challenge, even though some of the obstacles were very hard to do. Not everyone likes heights, muddy areas, and cold, icy streams.

You guys did it, you rocked it & we all came through at the end together as a Team.

Last night on 360° Rangatahi Life Skills, our crew did a demonstration of saving a person with a concussion in the water, then lifting the concussed person onto the side. We revised safe water entry with uniform on and treading through the water on our backs, and did a demonstration of rope water rescue.

The Wellington Free Ambulance crew were back on hand tonight, giving our rangatahi a real-world, hands on dive into emergency first aid.
Huge ngā mihi to James, Dana and Nick, who broke down how blood works in the body, how much we actually have, what happens at each stage of blood loss, and what to do when things are critical. Our rangatahi learned how to stop serious bleeds, pack wounds properly, and use a tourniquet to control blood flow.
They also learned exactly what to do if an AED is needed to save a life.
This went well beyond basic first aid. This was advanced paramedic knowledge shared in a way our rangatahi could understand, practise, and remember. A next level experience that builds confidence, capability, and readiness to step up when it matters.

Last night we kicked things off with a splash. Our 2026 recruits didn’t ease in, they went straight into the deep end. Literally.

They practised safe water entry for real world situations like rivers or lakes where you cannot see the bottom, entering from height, protecting the nose and staying calm under pressure.

We worked on resilience through different water treading techniques, recognising that one size does not fit all and different bodies need different strategies. We also pushed beyond pool thinking. What happens if you're in the open water and get tired? What if the sea is choppy and unforgiving?

Tonight was about laying the groundwork for everything to come in our future water sessions. Foundations first. Comfort, confidence, and respect for the water.

Ok whānau, we are four days out from applications closing. If you are 14 to 18, grab your phone and drop us a short mihi about why you want to be part of the kaupapa. If making a video feels like torture, write it instead. If you are the next big singer, send us a recording of you singing why you want to join 360 Rangatahi 2026.

Make sure your whānau are on board to get you to Waiouru every Tuesday from 4.30 to 6.30 during term time and a couple of weekends over summer. Easy as.

Any pātai, throw them in the comments.

Reminder whānau, registration need to be in by the 30th Nov for next year's program.

We’re on the lookout for our next 360° crew - motivated rangatahi from Waiouru and surrounding areas who want to challenge themselves, build confidence, and be part of something special.

360° Rangatahi isn’t just a program, it’s a whānau. You’ll learn bush skills, first aid, water safety, leadership, and teamwork. You’ll cook in the Army catering kitchen, work alongside the firies, gain confidence on the marae, and be part of projects that make a real difference.

We’re not looking for perfect. We’re looking for committed, rangatahi who want to turn up, give it a go, and grow.

Our Rangatahi have been getting ready over the past month for our whakahirahira (graduation) this weekend. Kevin Williams shared some great tips on public speaking, we’ve been down at the catering school prepping kai with Kim, tuning our vocals with Corey, Makere, and Raukura, and tonight we spent the evening carving up a mutton under the careful guidance of Mark Troon.

It’s a special time to reflect on the amazing year we’ve had, the friendships built, the skills gained, and the journeys shared.

Look we're famous! Always grateful 🙏

I was privileged to represent 360° Rangatahi at the Matariki mā Puanga Hautapu ceremony over the weekend at Tirorangi Marae.
I gotta tell you team—it was blimmin cold when we left Waiouru at 5am, but Ngāti Rangi were the perfect hosts, serving up all my favourite kai for breakfast: crayfish, creamed pāua, raw fish, boil-up, Hangi... the works.
It was an honour to share this special occasion with ATG Commander Colonel Lisa Kelliher and (Raukura's) Aunty Makere.
Thank you again, Ngāti Rangi for the opportunity to celebrate Te Tau Hou Māori with you. 🎉👏💕
