As cool as this would be it was indeed an April fools joke

I know it is early but preparedness is key

After careful consideration, plenty of feedback and a heap of intense research we have decided to have this years scarecrow hunt...... AT NIGHT

We are going all out and having some funky fantastic fluorescent scarecrows this year, they will be glowtastic and make for a pretty fun night walk.

Rug up warm and eat plenty of carrots to spot this years Glow Crows and maybe even learn something new about waimate at night or conquer your fears.

We can't wait.

The fish are rearing and ready to go… their annual swim is about to begin!
Every ticket number has a numbered fish — so the more tickets you have, the more fish you’ve got in the stream! 🎟🐟

🎟 Tickets available at the start line on Te Maiharoa Road

🚗 Parking options:
• Glenavy Domain – approx. 700m walk following cones along the stream (note: tree roots & a few obstacles)
• OR park on Te Maiharoa Road, walk down to the finish, then back up after

⚠️ The stream is mostly not wheelchair or pram accessible, but both the start and finish areas are.

These are ticket-based too — the more tickets you have, the better your chances!
And trust us… the sponsor table this year is VERY impressive 👏

And just like that the 2025 Waimate Scarecrow Hunt has come to a close I would like to extend a massive thankyou to everyone involved from those who came along and joined in the hunt, everyone who pitched in and made a scarecrow this year to the amazing local businesses that always offer up support of this venture. we had an amazing turn out of hunters with just over 330 maps picked up. looking forward to next year already it is shaping up to be even bigger.

Also, a big congratulations to our winners this year.

Here's a chance to get creative! The Waimate Museum & Archives invites you to take part in their Paper Dress competition.
Create a masterpiece out of discarded book pages, magazines and newspapers. Dress up a mannequin and display them at the Museum.

⭐ Entry forms available at the Museum Office. Entry fee $20.
⭐ The museum has a limited number of mannequins available or use your own.
⭐ Books/magazines to be recycled will be available from the museum after 31 October (after Bookarama).
⭐ Take your creation to the museum for dressing on 2 December.
⭐ Judging is on Saturday 6 December and entries remain on display all summer.
⭐ On Friday 5 February there will be an event for the People’s Choice Award.
