Breaking News:- May be FAKE.
Following Peter Mac On Hokonuis recent observation of building materials and infrastructure being stockpiled at a yard on South Street, it can now be revealed that the contract for the piling work on the new bridge has been awarded to the Ashburton Men’s Shed.
Foreman, Barry Bridgewater says the blokes were keen to “give it a go” after their wives told them to “find something useful to do and get out of my way.”
Undaunted, Bridgewater says the Men’s Shed members are keen to get stuck in. Several have had quite recent experience with piles.
Another, Smokey Anderson, had a father who smoked a pipe, so pipes are kind’ve in the blood.
Pressed further as to whether tackling a piling operation that needs to go 20 metres into the riverbed is wise for a bunch of seniors, Bridgewater allayed fears immediately.
“Deep down , we are really good blokes.”
