Three of the core values of TimeBank Waimakariri are:

SOCIAL CONNECTION: Being there for each other
LEARNING: Sharing skills and knowledge, learning about and from each other
SUSTAINABILITY: Guardianship of resources and our environment

Over the last two weekends we had two wonderful workshops, a ceramics workshop last weekend and a Trash to Treasure workshop yesterday.

At these workshops members were able to:
* enjoy spending time with others
* learn new skills
* view bits of "junk" in a new light as you turn them into something beautiful all while keeping them out of landfill

Thank you so much to the wonderful tutors:
Monique and Heather who taught the group how to make ceramic tealight houses
Lesley and Jo from Eco Educate

Some ideas of what you could bring include:
Broken jewellery (chains, charms, pendants, beads)
Buttons (different sizes, colours, vintage styles)
Small fabric scraps or ribbon
Old badges or pins
Small shells or small natural treasures
Lace, wool, or thread
Tiny toys or figurine pieces
Anything small, lightweight, and with a bit of character 😊

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us on Saturday for the first ever TimeBank Waimakariri “Upcycle Your Wardrobe” second‑hand clothing sale and fundraiser.

A special thank you to Tracey for sharing her amazing thrift‑flip inspirations, to Michelle for providing colour consultations, and to Janet and Sharon for their wonderful mending skills. We’re also very grateful to Larsen Signs for providing the signage stickers, and to everyone who generously donated clothing — your contributions made this event possible.

And of course, the biggest thanks goes to our incredible TimeBank Waimakariri volunteers. Your support helped make this event a success and kept so many great items out of landfill.

We’d love to see you at our "Upcycle Your Wardrobe" fundraiser on TOMORROW 18 April. Every purchase supports TimeBank Waimakariri and helps reduce textile waste. 📍 John Knox, Rangiora • 11:30am–2:30pm

Alongside the clothing sale, several TBW members will be offering their skills and expertise:
• Onsite mending and hemming will be available for a koha, helping shoppers give garments a second life.
• Michelle Parkes, a TBW member trained in colour and wardrobe consultancy, will provide personalised advice on colour and style choices.
• Tracey, another TBW member known for her creative “thrift flips,” will be on hand to inspire attendees with ideas for repurposing and transforming clothing into unique, bespoke pieces.

Tea and coffee will be available for $1 a cup, making it an enjoyable outing for families, thrifters, and sustainability minded locals alike.

Come along, find a bargain, learn something new, and support a more circular approach to fashion.
