A small pebble can create a big ripple! Another great news update March 2026. Mapuipulotu Home for the Aged in Savaii (which we helped source gear for from the CDHB and several generous aged care facilities in the South Island, N.Z with our partnership with St Vincent de Paul in Christchurch, N.Z), along with Mapuifagalele Home for the Aged in Apia, have both just received funding of WST $100,000 each from the Samoa Government Wellbeing Support Programme. For Mapuipulotu this funding is to be used, 'to assist with furniture and facility support, enhancing living conditions and comfort for elderly persons in care...'. The official statement from The Honourable Minister for Women, Community and Social Development, Hon Moefaauouo Julius Ah Kui Tafuna’i, says, ' “Our elders are the foundation of our families and communities. Supporting institutions that provide them with dignity, safety, and daily care is not optional, it is our duty,”. News update! October 2025. Mapu-i-Pulotu Home for the Aged is now open! Back in August 2021 as part of our ongoing provision of much needed aid to the people of Samoa we partnered with Keith Norton from SVDP in Christchurch to supply enough gear for SVDP to send a 20' container to SVDP Samoa. The supplies included hospital beds with mattresses, overbed tables, a hoist, wheelchairs and walkers, walking sticks, commode chairs, linen, towels, hospital pillows, storage units, bookcases, tables and dining chairs, cleaning buckets and mops etc. for the first Aged care home being established in Savaii. (abridged from the Savali newspaper): 'We can now report the great news that after many years of hard work that the 24 bed hospital is now open. This means that the elderly on the big island of Savaii that often had to travel to Upolu to be cared for at the Mapuifagalele Home of the Aged will no longer need to go so far from home. Now they have Mapuipulotu if they require residence for the elderly that has now officially opened. This is also the first ever home of the elderly in Savai’i and has been in the works for nearly a decade and was constructed at a cost of $3,506,125. The residence for the elderly is located at Fusi, Safotulafai and is built on the grounds of the former Logoipulotu College. The elderly home consists of 24 private rooms inclusive of attached showers and toilets, an office, dining hall, kitchen, chapel, laundry room, and 3 rooms for volunteers and a convent for the Sisters of Nazarene who will be caring for the elderly at the home. The people in Savai’i were that the long-awaited project has now been successfully completed. Catholics from around the country all gathered at the opening including the Sisters of Nazarene who are based in England. Many good Samaritans including former students of the Logoipulotu College contributed to this project over the years'. Seki! Alofa tele atu, Jason and Sandy

Update on construction of the new cafe and pickleball court at the YWAM Samoa base. The 40' container we donated now has an iron roof and attached verandah, and the concrete court and fencing job has now been completed. To kick off the new year the first tournament has now been held with various games for different levels. The next stage in the project is to undertake the transformation of the container into a cafe. Manuia mo galuega faigata uma. Well done for all the hard work. J and S
