Last night, Windward Troop had a Scottish themed night where the Scouts did a number of activities such as highland dancing & caber tossing. We were also lucky enough that some members from the City of Nelson Highland Pipe Band came down to share with the troop some Scottish music and the Scouts had the chance to have a quick lesson on practice chanters & and the various different drums used in a Pipe Band. At the end of the night we we were treated to a quick concert!

Last night, a Russian missile hit the factory where NOSU produces Scout uniforms.

We lost the fabric that had already been purchased, as well as uniforms that had already been produced and paid for, but not yet collected.

This happened just before the summer camp season, and all the uniforms lost belonged to new Scouts who had recently joined NOSU. For many of them, this summer will bring their first real Scout camp experience.

We cannot ask families to pay for the same uniform twice, but at the same time, NOSU is not in a position to replace everything that was lost on its own.

So today, we are turning to our friends, partners, and the global Scout community for support.

We all know that a Scout uniform is more than a shirt. It is about belonging, dignity, and equality. It is the feeling of standing together as part of a patrol, a troop, and the worldwide Scout family.

Please help us give these new Scouts the start to Scouting they deserve.

With your support, we will produce new uniforms and get them to the Scouts who have been waiting for them before their first summer camps.

- €20 provides a Scout uniform for one Ukrainian Scout
- €40 provides uniforms for two Ukrainian Scouts
- €100 provides uniforms for five Ukrainian Scouts

As a small thank-you:

- If you donate €20+, you will receive a thank-you video from a Ukrainian Scout.

- If you donate €40+, you will receive a thank-you video and a handmade postcard created by one of our Cub Scouts.

- If you donate €100+, you will receive a thank-you video, a handmade postcard, and a special edition NOSU Scout scarf.

All donations will go directly towards producing Scout uniforms for new Scouts.

All donors will receive a clear report on how the money was spent and what their support made possible.

Iron Duke had a busy start to these school holidays, hosting the Upper South Island Scout Easter Regatta here in Nelson.

We welcomed Scouts from Tamaha Sea Scout Group, Mapua; Mt Pleasant SS from Christchurch; Andersons Bay Sea Scouts , Dunedin; and Terra Nova Sea Scouts, Port Chalmers.

Between the groups attending, we had a fleet of 8 cutters plus 7 RS Fevas. The Scouts took part in sailing, rowing, and kayaking races, as well as practical and theoretical seamanship examinations, Iron Scout, and camping competitions. The Venturers also had their annual "Spoons" tournament.

Here's a collection of just some of the action over Easter weekend.

A huge BRAVO to everyone who helped make the weekend possible.

Tonight we celebrated our leaders service and thanked our out going Group Leader Paul. Paul has been an exceptional Group Leader, an outstanding fundraiser, advocate, boat acquirer and maintainer, event organiser (master of the excel spreadsheet 😁), encourager and best of all, our mate. BRAVO Paul, keep looking SHARP!
