From Second Language to the World Stage ~ Meet Fazla Dulficar

Public speaking has always been close to Fazla’s heart, even with English as her second language.

When she arrived in New Zealand over 4 years ago, her goal was simple: build confidence and find her voice. So, she took one small, brave step and joined Hutt Valley Toastmasters Club.

That step changed everything.

Speech by speech.
Meeting by meeting.
Her confidence grew. Her voice strengthened. Her belief expanded.

What began as a personal goal became an extraordinary journey that led Fazla to the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking in the United States.

Today, she remains deeply honoured as the first woman to represent New Zealand on that global stage and we couldn’t be prouder.

Beyond the spotlight, Fazla continues to lead and give back by serving as President of Hutt Valley Toastmasters and contributing to the Phoenix Petone Toastmasters Club community.

Her message is simple:
“If there’s something you’ve been wanting to try, this is your sign to begin.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just take the first step.
Because one step at a time can open doors you never knew existed.”

Another lovely shared meal after our meeting on Friday. If you ask any of our members their favourite thing about our club, most would say it's the close bond we all share. We really are one big extended family. Come to our next meeting to learn more.

Throwback to our 2022 Easter shared meal. This is a longstanding tradition at our club on Good Friday.
If you'd like to join us on Friday for our usual meeting followed by a meal, we'd love to see you. Bring a plate of food to share. Our meeting begins at 6pm so arrive early to get settled before we start. Message us for more details. This is not a religious celebration.
