We are absolutely thrilled with the number of uri who have registered for Te Toi Ahurea 2026. Well done to everyone who has worked super hard to encourage whaanau to get involved. All marae coordinators have been provided with their marae lists and are now working to establish teams. To support marae to fill their teams, registrations will remain open until 5pm this Friday, 2 October 2026.

Pakihi EOIs have been extended to 12 October to allow more time for those who wish to hold a stall or exhibition to register their interest. Currently we have a small selection of kai stalls as well as mirimiri and a dedicated space for Maaori Films to be showcased. Te Toi Ahurea is an ideal opportunity to hold a stall if you're fundraising for a particular kaupapa, so please help spread the word.

MARAE PARTICIPATION ACTIVITIES

One aspect of Te Toi Ahurea that hasn't been covered in the marae updates is the Marae Participation activities. This year we have three very exciting activities:

Marae Banner: This is your opportunity to showcase your marae. Create a banner that tells everyone who you are. Dress up in marae colours or do something really unique to stand out.

Tuupuna Features: Every marae has tuupuna who are important to their marae and whaanau. To help celebrate your tuupuna, create a poster board that teaches the rest of us about your tuupuna (contemporary or historical). Share who they were and why they are important to your marae. All tuupuna boards will be showcased in the Matariki Hall for the duration of Te Toi Ahurea 2026.

Mahi Toi: In 2013, some marae produced Hieke, many of which are used on our marae today. This year, some marae made Papa Whaariki which were presented in early June. Marae are invited to bring their Heike and Papa Whaariki to put on display in the Matariki Hall at Te Toi Ahurea 2026.

These activities provide an opportunity for marae to celebrate their uniqueness while strengthening and revitalising our Ngaa Rauru Kiitahitanga as iwi, hapuu, marae and whaanau.

Logistics for Te Toi Ahurea are now being finalised. Once complete, we will send a whaanau update to all those who are registered so keep an eye out for that.

We understand that tomorrow has been set for the whaanau and Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi. Whilst from Friday onwards is for "the motu". Therefore this(apopo) is the correct day for us to attend the uhunga. Noo taatou tonu teenei mate, so being that he is also uri of Wai o Turi we should be doing our best to whakaeke with our taonga where possible.

We unfortunately do not have a confirmed time for his whakaeke however, we should aim to be there before 12 and await his arrival if he does not arrive prior.

If we could meet at the Paatea bottom shop ready to leave for Paakaraka at 11.15am Sharp.
