Vibrant Visions Exhibition runs until January 26 at Square Edge
Here are two more of the prize winners - second place equal.

Ascension Bird by Simon Ford
The judge said - The clever focus of light amidst the restrained use of colour ensures this work stands out.

Pohangina River by Vonnie Sterritt
The judge said - This large acrylic tackles a difficult subject - a foreground bank of rocks and a submerged rocky riverbed. The detail and sbtle lighting make this an attractive regional landscape.

Studio on the Square’s exhibition is on at Square Edge until Jan 26.
On awards night last year the people voted on their favourites from the judge’s list of their top ten artworks. Five artists received prizes.
First prize went to -
Sunset over Milson
Jodi Calkin
This painting was the peoples top choice in last years competition. The judge said of it -
A striking luminescent work. The choice of a simple subject allows the play of light to dominate. Much skill has gone into rendering areas such as the upper sky and the light on the trees.

Studio on the Square Sketch Club is back on tomorrow from 10 am to 11:30 am at Square Edge.
All welcome. Bring your own art supplies and start creating. We provide morning. Saying that the new cafe in Square edge now has glorious coffee.

Unfortunately the art and craft market on Jan 25 has been cancelled but the Saturday free workshops are on.
On Sat 24 we are offering free workshops from drawing to painting. A couple of these have sold out but space still left in others - there are demonstrations, drawing and painting Details at eventspronto.co.nz/studioonsquarethesquare

Last night we presented the prizes in our Vibrant Visions Painting Competition and Exhibition.
Before the exhibition opened judge chose their top ten paintings and then last night the people voted.

First prize of $1000 went to Jodi Calkin for Sunset over Milson.
Second Prize of $400 went to Vonnie Sterritt for Pohangina River.
Second Prize of $400 went to Simon Ford for Ascension Bird
Third Prize of $200 to Charmaine Bastion for The Builders
Third Prize of $200 to Kevin Jones for Couch Group
Also in the top ten were the highly commended :
Naomi Hopkinson : Canna Lily
Anne Morris : Aro Valley
Kat Crosse : Windfarm V
Lucy Ashdown : Arrangement
Jemma Saunders : Mesmerised Soul

This exhibition is on at Square Edge until January 26 2026 so there is plenty of time to call in and see the works.

Huge thank you to all of the artists for sharing their work. Thank you also to the judge picking the top - not an easy task with such a diverse and talented bunch of artworks to choose from.
Thank you also to Palmerston North City Councillor Rachel Bowen for presenting our prizes last night.
Finally thank you to Eastern and Central Community Trust and Creative Communities for supporting this event.

A sneak peak at a few more works being installed at Square Edge. Big thank you to Luke for the installation - he is making it look amazing.
Prize Giving is next Wednesday December 10 from 6 pm. Join us for a glass of wine and juice and some lovely food while you vote for your favourite artwork. Prizing will probably be about 7 pm. Come along, we’d love to see you there.

This week, Studio on the Square's Competition & Exhibition brings a burst of creative energy to Square Edge Community Arts in Palmerston North. Discover an exciting array of art works on display and for sale from December 8 to January 25.
Join the Opening Night and Prize Giving celebration on Wednesday, December 10 at 6 pm, and be among the first to experience the impressive works, including Mesmerised Soul by Jemma Saunders, Donut Girl by Serena Deane, and Basket of Garlic by Lois Janik.

Entries cost $25 or two for $40.

If you love to create, Studio on the Square runs a drop in art group every Thursday morning, 10 am to 12 noon in the Workshop at Square Edge. Bring along your own art supplies and enjoy morning tea and art in the group.

Upcoming in December is a competition and exhibition - entry forms by email. This is open to Manawatu and surrounding areas for artists of all ages Mixed media artwork ( collage and paint) shown is by artist Stanica Dulovic and is her entry into the Academy Spring Show in Wellington.
