"Even though it’s very early days, I’ve already had a few moments which normally would have sent me into a spin and instead of crumbling, I thought back to something which had been said in the conversations to help me put things in perspective. Everything about the retreat, from the organization, the support, the camaraderie, and of course the fishing, was perfect, and I feel privileged to have been involved."
From a participant at our just completed Bridgnorth, England Retreat. No matter where we are in the world, Reel Recovery is changing lives! Be Well! Fish On!

Turangi retreat March 2026.

For the men coming there's always an unknown element of what to expect, who will be there, how will they cope, what will happen.

The following photos follow one participant, Graeme, through many of the phases and elements of a Reel Recovery retreat.

There's the sharing - sometimes for the first time in a group, certainly never before with this group of strangers. Then prior to fishing - sometimes for the first time ever - there's the joining with all of the men who have gone before, with the signing of the fishing vest.

Then there's the fishing. Learning to cast a fly rod, focusing on the indicator or fly line, watching for a strike. Sometimes it's deep focus, entirely in the moment. Sometimes it's just plain fun!

As the retreat concludes there's celebrating the stories of impact and then it ends as a new beginning for each participant starts.

Be well. Fish on.
