Stuart caught the first fish at the Hexham UK Retreat, the first fish of his life! But more importantly, he touched us with his meaningful comments:
"It is strange to choose these words, but I feel lucky to have cancer because it is why I was on the retreat and got to meet so many selfless, compassionate buddies/supporters who gave me their time and presence to relieve me from my struggles and forget cancer for a while.
They turned an ordinary activity into a moment of profound healing for me.
The Courageuos Conversations, I approached honestly to get out what I needed. They were powerful and thought provoking and they worked for me.
Thank you. My spirits are lifted; my mood is positive.
I will never forget my time with Reel Recovery in Hexham, I will always carry the power of knowing that ordinary people are willing to give up their time and energy to make my life easier, I will not let them down, I will continue the fight."

Last weekend we held our third annual retreat in Northumberland. The weather may have been problematic, but spirits were high, fish were caught and ten men with cancer went home on Sunday with lighter hearts, a more positive outlook and the knowledge that they are not alone in their struggle. It was a privilege to host them all.
