Important Notice: Please be aware!
With the new watermain in Fairfax St having been commissioned today, we just want you to be aware that some fire hydrants that were previously on the footpath are now on the road, where cars park.
In New Zealand, it is only legal to park on or within 500 mm of a fire hydrant if a licensed driver stays with the vehicle who is capable of moving it immediately. The fire hydrants will be painted yellow. Please look out for them when parking.

🌧️Please take care out there, and remember ...🌧️
β€’ Always call 111 when life or safety is at risk.
β€’ Don't drive through floodwater.
o You can’t tell how deep the water is, or how swift
o The road may have been washed away; there could be hidden obstacles
o You're putting yourself at risk, and risking the lives of those who come to your rescue

Meet The Crew Friday! πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸš’

Name: Paul Sara
Rank: QFF
Brigade: Murchison Volunteer Fire Brigade (38)

Introduce yourself tell us a little bit about you:
Im a 45 year old husband to one, and Dad to two. We have a Fencing Contracting business which allows for me to have flexibility in my life for the things I love. Fishing, Hunting, family, friends, fun times and helping people.
In my childhood I spent a good portion of it around a few different fire brigades and I think that really helped me become keen to follow in my Dads footsteps.

What is your story on why you joined your brigade?
I worked in town for a bit and realised how often that siren would go off around here. My wife always says "you're a man who does his best work when he is 'needed' " I guess that personality helps draw me to this kind of volunteering.

What do you get out of it?
A sense of purpose and doing good for people when they are often having a rough or even very dark day. If I can help problem solve or make someone feel safe and ok for even just 30 seconds, I'm there for it.

What is the best part about your brigade?
The camaraderie. Its a Murchison family, be it through the good the bad and the ugly. Plus I've had this awesome opportunity to be able to Volunteer alongside my Dad for a few years now.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining their local brigade?
Do it! Everyone has a skill they can bring. Dont think, just do it! We would love to have you. πŸ”₯πŸš¨πŸš’

After 12-ish years of service, laughs, banter, and keeping the rest of us entertained at every callout, training won’t quite be the same as we farewell Jon Nicholls our DFC as he heads off on his next adventure β€” all the way to Spain for a much deserved holiday πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ

From the day he joined the brigade, he’s been the kind of person who could make even the toughest nights lighter with a joke, a grin, or some questionable advice delivered with confidence. Behind the laughs though has always been someone dedicated to his family, his crew, his community, and the brigade.

Over the years he’s become more than just a member of the brigade β€” he’s family. And no matter where life takes him, this crew will always have his back, just like he'll always have ours.

While we’re not sure Spain is fully prepared for him, we know he’ll take the same heart, humour, and hard-working attitude with him wherever he goes or whatever challenge he puts himself in πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

Thanks for the memories, the laughs, and the years of service Jon. Safe travels, enjoy every second of the adventure, and remember β€” you’ll always have a place back at the station waiting for you.

See you soon, enjoy soaking it all in… and don’t forget to send proof you’re surviving without those Tutaki Bakery pies. πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ 🍻 πŸ₯§

I'm wondering what John is teaching our newest firefighters, Angeline and Andre! πŸ€” They look ready to learn all the ropes. πŸ”₯πŸš’ What important tips do you think he's sharing?

After our fire-wise showing we received the most heartwarming request by our local superstar teacher aids! πŸ’›πŸ”₯
How could we possibly say no to Corban?! 😍 Paul helped him turn on our truck siren and honk the horn, the pure joy on Corban's face was absolutely priceless! πŸš’πŸš¨

This week was incredible! We supported Firewise, teaching our community's youngest tamariki about fire safety. πŸ”₯πŸš’ They learned so much about prevention, safe meeting places and what to do if a fire starts, and how to escape quickly while being safe! The next day, we were back at school with 387, Alysha even did a wee recap with some quick questions about yesterday before The tamariki got into the fun stuff. They had a blast trying on our gear, asking tons of questions, and seeing our emergency equipment and what they might see and hear if they were trapped in a fire and a BA team coming to rescue them!
It's Such a joy to reinforce these vital lessons! ❀️🚨
We love showing up for our community in all aspects not just in emergencies, thanks team for letting us be a part of your learning πŸš’πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸš’πŸš¨

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mums, stepmums, grandmothers, mother figures, and especially the mums within our brigade and community.

Thank you for everything you do β€” the love, strength, patience, and support you give every single day does not go unnoticed. Whether you’re responding to the siren, supporting those who do, or holding everything together at home, we appreciate you.

From all of us at the brigade, we hope you have a wonderful and well-deserved Mother’s Day. πŸ’πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸš’πŸ₯°
