He karanga tēnei ki ngā rangatahi o te rohē

What is it?
A hands-on land based studies and pest control programme, grounded in kaupapa Māori and delivered right here on our whenua at Tuahiwi. Ākonga will build practical skills in whenua management and pest control while growing their understanding of what it means to stand as kaitiaki for our taiao.

Who is it for?
Anyone aged 17+ who are keen to learn on the land, connect with whānau and whenua, and carry the responsibility of kaitiakitanga of Aotearoa and our biosecurity into the future.

At the beginning of term two, we had 8 tauira begin their journey with us. Over the last 6 months we have had the privilege of walking alongside these incredible rangatahi. Teaching them, building connections with them, watching them grow, and holding space as they navigate their world. The up's and downs, the everyday challenges, they faced it all; and so did we. This week, we will share a little more about that journey with you, a peak behind the scenes of Graduation week at Noaia.

New Noaia Board Member

The Noaia Board Trust is thrilled to announce the appointment of Esme Dawson Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāpuhi to our Board of Directors.

Esme brings over 30 years of exceptional experience working within financial, legal, and regulatory frameworks within both the private and public sectors, including time with Paerangi Limited, the Māori Boarding Schools. She has worked in a specialised leadership role within the Inland Revenue in the area of tax investigation for the past 24 years. Esme brings the following key capabilities to the board.

Governance & Financial Oversight - Extensive experience bridging operational delivery and governance, ensuring processes and decisions strictly align with statutory obligations and financial controls.

Risk Mitigation & Compliance - A proven track record in complex risk assessment, audit processes, and the lawful handling of public funds.

Financial Literacy - Strong analytical capability to interpret complex information, identify operational anomalies, and to translate strategic insights into clear guidance.

Cultural & Community Alignment - Deep commitment to embedding manaakitangaand whānau connection into leadership decisions.

In her spare time, Esme is a well known New Zealand home baker who achieved national prominence as the runner up on the third season of TV3’s reality TV show Chelsea New Zealand’s Hottest Home Baker.

He aituā, he aituā!It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved kaumātua, Poua Kevin Hopkinson (Hoppy) A dedicated pillar of our Noaia whānau and a fierce guardian of our kaupapa.Haere atu rā e te rangatira, kua hinga te tāraka i te wao nui a Tāne. Moe mai rā i te kapua o te pō.

Loved son of the late Tahu and Joy Hopkinson. Beloved father of Nicola and Richard Boyle, Antony and Lizzy Hopkinson, adored Grandad of Shinia and Phife and, great grandfather of Taruhae and Āwhina. Matamua of Gloria and Gordon, Gaye and Wayne, Elizabeth and Barry, Cathy and Gregg, the late Bill, Carol and Garry, Mariane and Greg and, Rahera and Phil. Kevin will be at home from Monday afternoon and visitors are welcome to come and pay their respects. He will travel to Tuahiwi marae on Wednesday arriving at 2pm. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday 27th August.
