Te Kaha One NZ Stadium Tour

Despite a wintery grey morning and a beastly easterly breeze, a group of 29 enjoyed the warmth and grandeur of Te Kaha – One Stadium on 12 August 2026. From the start of the ninety-minute tour, our guide Geoff regaled us with interesting facts and figures throughout, and the stadium structure itself was equally impressive.

Highlights included visits to the coaches' box, corporate suites, photographers' balcony, players' changing rooms, and the players' entry tunnel. Everyone agreed it was a tour well worth doing!

July "In-between" trip

What a wonderful day out! 🚌

Twenty-two of our Probus members and friends set off from Kaiapoi under light skies for our “in-between” trip to Lyttelton and Governors Bay — and what a trip it turned out to be.

Our first stop was the Sumner Road lookout, where we took in sweeping views over Lyttelton Port before heading down to the Diamond Harbour Ferry terminal. Those feeling adventurous hopped aboard the ferry for a scenic harbour crossing, while the rest explored Lyttelton's charming village — browsing the shops and soaking up the wonderful hospitality on offer.

By the time we reboarded the bus, the clouds had lifted and the sun was out — perfect timing for the picturesque drive around the inlet to Governors Bay. Lunch at the Otoromiro Hotel was a delight, with great food and even better conversation flowing around the table.

The journey home wouldn't have been complete without a stop at the famous Dyers Road Lolly Shop, where our members made the most of the enormous selection of sweets and treats on offer. Safe to say, few went home empty-handed! 🍬

A huge thank you to the staff and management at the Otoromiro Hotel for looking after us so beautifully, and to Tiger Shuttles for getting us there and back safely. Already looking forward to the next one!

🎩✨ Mad Hatters Tea Party – In-Between Event ✨🎩

On Thursday 30 April, 19 of our wonderfully “mad” members gathered at Robyn’s beautiful home for a delightful Mad Hatters Tea Party. Everyone embraced the theme, arriving in fantastic hats and creative outfits.

The afternoon began with a relaxed catch-up, with members enjoying a variety of activities including croquet, corn toss, and even some creative fun with coloured playdough. Soon enough, we were called inside to enjoy a glass of bubbles or punch, before taking our seats at tables that were beautifully decorated for the occasion.

The tea party itself was nothing short of spectacular. We were treated to a delicious selection of savouries and sandwiches, followed by freshly baked scones with jam and cream, and finished with an irresistible array of sweets and cupcakes — a true feast enjoyed by all.

To top off a truly memorable afternoon, everyone was sent home with a thoughtful party bag gift.

A huge thank you to Robyn (and her helpers) for the incredible effort she put into hosting such a special event — from the decorations to the wonderful food, much of which she prepared herself. It was a fantastic day, and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

Blue House Amberley Bus Trip - March 2026

The Blue House was a beautiful setting set on the outskirts of Amberley. Jenny and her partner have been at these premises for fourteen years.

When they arrived, this was a bare landscape. Jenny talked about the different parts of the garden; one was the Bog area and there were seats under shade covered trees where people could take in the spectacular sights.

If we thought one area was superb, our eyes were quickly drawn to other parts that were set out for vegetable gardens, aspelier apple trees along fences, grape vines that were carefully arranged to get the sun and that pergola was so relaxing.

Jenny would have served tea had we not been to the Cocoa Black Cafe prior to our visit.

To sum the day up, we began with Kaiapoi in fog only to have lovely sunshine as soon as we travelled north.

Thanks to the Leithfield Hotel for our lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Lavender Farm Visit - A Delightful Day Out! 💜

What a wonderful day 16 of our members enjoyed this Wednesday, 11 February!

We kicked things off with morning tea at The Office Cafe in the Old School Collective - nothing beats good coffee, delicious scones, and great conversation with friends.

Then it was off to the Lavender Farm on Waikuku Beach Road, where Clare and Kevin welcomed us warmly. We learned the farm's history - it was started by Clare's father when he was 70! Clare demonstrated the process of extracting oil from lavender plants, while Kevin shared his expertise on growing lavender from cuttings.

As a bonus, Kevin showed some of us his impressive heritage tomato crop and explained his seed propagation techniques.

We explored the farm grounds, with Clare and Kevin patiently answering all our questions about everything lavender.

Of course, we couldn't leave without browsing the shop filled with Clare's wonderful lavender-based products!

A fantastic time was had by all. Huge thanks to Clare and Kevin for your hospitality and for sharing your knowledge so generously. 🌿

2026 Annual Club Picnic: A Perfect Day at Ohoka Domain

On Wednesday, 28 January 2026, 32 of our members gathered at the Ohoka Domain for our annual picnic. We couldn't have asked for better conditions—the sun shone and the wind stayed away.

It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to catch up in such a scenic setting. With great company and perfect weather, a fantastic time was had by all. A big thank you to everyone who attended and made the day so special!

November 32nd Anniversary Morning Tea

At our 19th November meeting we celebrated 32 years of our Club. Morning tea was catered by The Kaiapoi Club and what a morning tea it was.

It was wonderful to have our Probus Ambassador, Don Hayes, join us for our Birthday celebrations to help cut the cake and speak to us at the beginning of our Anniversary meeting.

After the morning tea we were entertained by the amazing Wendy Wiparata. What a fabulous voice!! It certainly was appreciated by us all. The hour just whizzed by and we wished we could have listened to her for many more hours.

Views, Chairlifts, and Cake! 🌲🏔️

Last Wednesday, 27 October, 12 of our members met up for an "in-between" outing at the Christchurch Adventure Park!

The chairlift ride was incredible. From the top, we soaked up amazing views: across Lyttelton Harbour to Diamond Harbour in one direction, and north/west over the city towards the Southern Alps in the other. Plus, the lovely sound of birdlife kept us company on the ascent!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Adventure Park! 🙏 They were incredibly accommodating, ensuring everyone, including those with mobility issues, got safely on and off the chairlift. They could not have been more cheerful and helpful.

We finished off a perfect day by heading to the nearby Oderings cafe for some well-deserved drinks and tasty treats.

Thank you, Robyn, for organising yet another successful and memorable outing!

2025 Mystery Bus Trip

Our annual Mystery Tour on Wednesday 24 September was well attended with 47 members hopping aboard the ‘Mystery Bus’ at 9:30am.
We were whisked off to Knightsbank, where we spent time exploring the huge collection of automobiles, symphonions, organs and memorabilia - including a fully functioning carousel (which some of us tried out as a nod to our early childhood).
Then it was back on the bus to the next stop at the Halswell Quarry Park and Gardens. The cherry blossoms were magnificent, as was the sunshine that enabled us to wander about the many different areas of the park.
Another short bus trip took us to The Vicarage for a leisurely lunch and more merriment.
Well done to those who attempted the Dingbat quiz on route – challenging on the mental capacity, as well as writing while the bus moved along. However it took us back to the days where our parents tried to keep us kids in the back seat entertained while they were driving!
