Hokitika Westland RSA This public page has been set up to keep people of the Westland District informed of our local RSA. Membership is via vetted subscription.

We open every Friday from 1530 hrs to have a drink and a catch up in our club rooms. Hokitika Westland RSA club rooms are for all Westland District returned, active and ex service men and women and their families. It also includes those who chose to petition the membership committee to become members of the association through subscription. Request forms to join the organisation are held at the bar and can be completed during bar hours.

BURROWS, Mrs Karen Mary
The King’s Service Medal
For services to sport and the community.

Mrs Karen Burrows has been heavily involved with the Hokitika/Westland community, particularly through local rugby and the RSA.

Mrs Burrows has volunteered with Wests Rugby Club for more than 33 years and was instrumental in navigating the club through a period of hardship and back to success. She has held all officer roles within the club, including President. She has coached and managed young players and drives teams to away games. In 2013, she became President of West Coast Rugby Union, becoming New Zealand’s first female provincial rugby union President. She is a Life Member of both Wests Rugby Club and the West Coast Rugby Union, and is currently Patron of West Coast Rugby Union. She has volunteered with the Hokitika/Westland RSA for 23 years in many capacities, including Secretary, Treasurer, building maintenance officer, cleaner and bar manager. She co-led the planning and fundraising to construct a new RSA building after the former building was deemed an earthquake risk. She has organised the annual ANZAC Day and poppy collection and assists unwell veterans with shopping trips and transportation to hospital appointments. Mrs Burrows has held other local governance roles, including current Treasurer and former Secretary of the Hokitika Angling Club, Treasurer of Grey Power, and a 15-year involvement with Red Cross.
