BPW Hāwera Celebrates 40 Years! 🎉

BPW Hāwera marked a very special milestone this week as members, past members and guests gathered at Someday Café to celebrate our 40th birthday — four decades of advocacy, leadership and community impact.

We were honoured to be joined by several past presidents, including our very first president, Diana O’Brian, whose presence made the evening even more meaningful. The room was full of stories, reconnections and the shared pride of how far our club has come.

A highlight of the night was presenting the Taranaki Health Foundation with a cheque to support cancer patients travelling to New Plymouth for treatment. Helping ease travel costs for local families reflects the heart of BPW — women supporting community wellbeing.

To finish the evening with creativity and laughter, members enjoyed a hands‑on activity making flower pots with Grace Hornby and Jo Stevens — a fun way to celebrate growth, colour and the next chapter of BPW Hāwera.

Here’s to the past 40 years, and to many more years of empowering women in South Taranaki. 💛🖤

A great night out for our April BPW Hāwera dinner meeting at Someday Café, where we celebrated Gwen Cater’s 15 years of dedicated service to our club.

After dinner we headed to the Hāwera RSA, where President Danny Garrett and Vice President Tara Hogan welcomed us and shared the rich history of the RSA building and its incredible collection of medals, photos, flags and historic fi****ms. Members also enjoyed their special themed cocktail, “The Trench Nurse” — a creamy mix of Sheep Dog, Kahlúa, coconut milk and golden syrup.

BPW Hāwera brings local women together to learn, lead and create positive change in our community. We meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month at Someday Café and always welcome new members.

At our dinner meeting on Monday at Someday we awarded our Women’s Education Scholarship to Emily Werder who will be using the funds for her study in Early Childcare Education. Our scholarship is an important tool in achieving our aim to encourage and support women and girls to undertake lifelong education and training and help develop their professional and leadership potential.

After dinner we welcomed Diane Pentz, general manager of Te Ara Pae Trust. Te Ara Pae Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that provides counselling to individuals and whānau across South Taranaki who are affected by family and sexual violence. Counselling is also provided to young people and includes counselling for the rainbow community. She told us all about the good work they do and community support they need due to lack of funding in the rural areas. This isa subject very close to the hearts of BPW members.
