Yesterday Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a water tank on fire! πŸ’§

How can that happen?

The homeowner had some ashes from their fireplace; they had waited a few days for them to cool before disposing of them in their compost bin next to the tank. Unfortunately a few days was not long enough!

πŸ”₯Hot tip: Ashes can take up 5 days to cool completely! We recommend hot ashes are emptied into a metal bin, water is poured over them and they are left to cool completely for 5 days.

We would like to acknowledge and celebrate three incredible legends who have decided to hang their helmets up for good β€” Neil Robbie, Ashley Banks, and John Bary.

Between them are countless hours of service, dedication, hard work, and commitment to our community and brigade. From turning out on the truck, to the extra jobs around the station that often go unseen, each of you have gone well beyond the call of duty time and time again.

Your camaraderie, humour, support, leadership, and experience have helped shape our brigade into what it is today and have left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to serve alongside you.

You will be missed on the truck, but we are incredibly lucky to have you as Life Members, meaning this is not goodbye. We look forward to seeing you at many future brigade occasions and continuing to share stories and laughs together for years to come.

We also want to acknowledge and sincerely thank your wives β€” Louise, Roanne, and Paula and your families for the incredible support over the years. Thank you for holding it down at home, for the sacrifices made behind the scenes, and for supporting the long callouts, trainings, meetings, and everything else that comes with brigade life. Your support has played a huge part in the service these three legends have given to our community.

Robbie, Banks & Bary - You can finally sleep through the siren β€” you’ve more than deserved it πŸ‘

On behalf of the brigade and community β€” THANK YOU for your service 🫑🧑
