Dunedin Riding for the Disabled

Dunedin Riding for the Disabled The Riding for the Disabled Association Inc was established in New Zealand in 1972, and Dunedin Group RDA was established in 1973.

Dunedin RDA provides interaction with horses to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing disability, or who have specific challenges or needs, enabling them to have meaningful participation in, and contribution to, their community. The location of Dunedin RDA has changed over the years but we now have our own land in Fairfield, Dunedin. Dunedin RDA is a not for profit organisa

tion which is run and managed by volunteers and a few staff. We receive no government funding and rely on grants, corporate sponsorship and generous donations from the community to keep the RDA operating for our over 50 riders. Please any questions email
[email protected] or visit our website www.rdadunedin.org

The more we learn about horses, the more extraordinary they become. 💙

Thank you Rotary Club of Taieri!

One of the hardest working pieces of equipment we have at DRDA is "Johnny" our trusty 4x4.

As well as a variety of transport and cartage roles around our Flower Street site, his regular duties include grooming the surface of our indoor arena several times a week to keep it in tip-top shape for the horses and volunteers in our therapy and other riding sessions.

During a recent annual inspection, we found that there were some significant repairs required to bring Johnny up to scratch to protect the safety of our staff who operate him.

We are grateful to the members of the Rotary Club of Taieri for the Club's offer of a very generous donation towards the cost of the necessary repairs.

Thanks to your support of DRDA, which is hugely appreciated, Johnny is back at work, and the arena surface is once again looking pristine.

Thanks to the skills of a friend of DRDA who has mastered his 3D printer, our horses now have individualised 'number plates' for their paddocks.

Each horse's gear and tack is colour coded - and so are their name plates.

Our staff and volunteers love them, and by the look on Cheddar's face, so do the horses!

A little cuteness from our week.

A very special thanks to Zeberdee Equine for sponsoring Cheddar with his new halter and wonderful wool rug 😍 Cheddar joined the RDA crew last year after coming from a difficult situation. He’s a cheeky and inquisitive fella who loves attention and takes his training sessions very seriously. His favourite activity is carrying flags—which he’ll happily do all by himself! We're very excited that Cheddar will be joining the RDA programme very soon!

Please check out Zeberdee Equine's wonderful range here https://www.facebook.com/share/1B54WvTmZH/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Ps if you'd like to sponsor an RDA Dunedin horse please get in touch - [email protected]

We are excited to start term 2 tomorrow. Hoping the weather behaves as much as our horses.
