Sport Otago 🤝 Active Southland

We loved connecting with Active Southland's Healthy Active Learning team this week, sharing ideas and learning from each other to support more tamariki and rakatahi across the lower South Island to enjoy being active! 🤸‍♀️

Two days of learning, sharing and making connections 🌊
Our Healthy Active Learning team had a great couple of days catching up with the Sport Otago Healthy Active Learning team this week.
It was a chance to spend some time together, swap ideas, hear what each team has been working on and learn from each other.
We wrapped things up at Tai Tōrua – The Changing Tides, a one-day conference hosted by PENZ, Sport Otago and the University of Otago – School of Education.
There was plenty to get us thinking, from literacy in the outdoors and Maramataka, to supporting neurodiverse tamariki in movement-based classes and getting our heads around the new Health and PE Curriculum.
Lots of good conversations, plenty of ideas to take home, and even better, stronger connections with others who share our passion for helping tamariki have positive experiences through movement.
Ngā mihi nui to everyone who shared their knowledge, experiences and ideas with us 💙

There’s more learning in fire lighting than you might think… 🔥

Opportunities for oral language, new vocabulary, describing, questioning and storytelling. Literacy opportunities are everywhere in outdoor learning!

Big mihi to everyone who joined us in Ōtepoti Dunedin yesterday for Tai Tōrua. We had 67 kaiako, third-year teaching students and a principal come along to learn about everything from the new HPE curriculum, supporting neurodiverse students and integrating Maramataka to Literacy in the Outdoors, Smash Cricket and Te Whare Tapa Whā.

We’re proud to support Physical Education New Zealand to bring Tai Tōrua to Dunedin, alongside Education Outdoors New Zealand and the University of Otago College of Education. Loved having our friends from Active Southland join us too!

Keep an eye out for more opportunities to learn with us and our partners.

Meet Chris MacDonell – our newest Healthy Lifestyles Advisor! 👋

You might recognise Chris from her years at Unipol, or from the community fitness classes she runs in Ōtepoti. She brings a huge amount of experience in tertiary recreation and marketing, and a real passion for helping people move more, feel well and enjoy life.

Outside of work, you’ll find Chris getting outdoors, being creative and spending time with her whānau.

Welcome to the Sport Otago whānau, Chris! 💛💙
