Paulo Chicareli | 1993 – 2026 🕯️

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Paulo Chicareli.

Paulo was a very dear member the Galerie Ron Mandos community and an alumnus of the Young Blood Foundation’s Best of Graduates programme. From the very beginning, he stood out not only for his work (deeply engaged with themes he cared about, including LGBTQ+ rights, and a clear consciousness of the world and people around him) but also for who he was: always kind, empathetic.

He was a constant and warm presence at our events and left a lasting impression on everyone who met him, including all of us at Galerie Ron Mandos and the Young Blood Foundation.

A memorial gathering will be held at KABK on Thursday, April 23, starting at 16:30 in PB.111, where all who wish to attend are welcome to come together in memory of Paulo.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones. 🤍

🏆 Announcing Our Winners: Best of Graduates 2025 Final Awards Ceremony

Today at Galerie Ron Mandos, we celebrated the winners of this year’s Best of Graduates awards, presented by Deputy Mayor Touria Meliani. The ceremony honoured the incredible artists shaping the future of contemporary art:

RM Photo Talent Award: Jip Schalkx
RM Residency Award at BRUTUS: Mats Mingus
RM Public Choice Award: Đăng-Vũ Đặng

In her speech, Deputy Mayor Meliani spoke about the importance of uplifting new talent: “Today I had the honor of presenting these awards and witnessing the incredible talent supported by the Ron Mandos Young Blood Foundation. This work is vital not only for the artists but also for the cultural vibrancy of our city. Congratulations to all the winners and participants. Their work represents an exciting and important future for art in our community.”

The RM Photo Talent Award went to Jip Schalkx for her portraits about connection and identity. Her work will be shown in a special photo program next year.

Mats Mingus won the RM Residency Award at BRUTUS for his paintings and sculptures about belief, power, and the news. He will join a six-month residency in Rotterdam.

The RM Public Choice Award went to Đăng-Vũ Đặng for his personal work on memory and diaspora. After the ceremony, he shared 'Consuming Love and Violence', a performance with edible sculptures made from historical fragments.

Yesterday, we also hosted the Lakeside Collection Award. Presented by Mariette Dölle, Director of the Oude Kerk, the award went to Pip Greenaway, who will now begin a residency at Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to everyone who joined us in supporting these outstanding voices in contemporary art!

We Have a Winner: Mees de Rozario 🎉 Ron Mandos Young Blood Award 2025 (+ special events this Sunday – details below)

We’re excited to announce that Mees de Rozario has won the Ron Mandos Young Blood Award 2025! The award was presented this evening by Barbara Bos, Head of Exhibitions at Museum Voorlinden, during the festive opening of Best of Graduates 2025.

Mees, a graduate of ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem, creates sculptural sound works that mix storytelling, protest, performance, and play. His work reimagines the Dutch street organ through the world of rave culture—raising questions around public space, sound, and who gets to be heard.

The winning work, part of his ongoing Rozario’s Rave Organs series, will be donated by the Ron Mandos Young Blood Foundation to the permanent collection of Museum Voorlinden.

As Mees says:
“The only good system is a soundsystem.”

This weekend, join us for a special Sunday program with Mees de Rozario. Come meet the artist, hear from him in conversation with curator Radek Vana, and stay for a live performance of his award-winning sound work.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us tonight. The exhibition is now open to the public; come discover the full show featuring 26 artists from art academies across the Netherlands.
