Looking back at the opening of Best of Graduates 2026 🎓🎈⁠

Last Friday, we celebrated the opening of the 19th edition of Best of Graduates at Galerie Ron Mandos. Curated by Radek Váňa, this year's exhibition brings together 27 outstanding graduates from art academies across the Netherlands, showcasing a new generation of emerging artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, textile, video, installation, and beyond. Pictured on the first slide are participating artists and the Galerie Ron Mandos team. ⁠

We were also delighted to present the RM Young Blood Award 2026 to Tom Allsop for his remarkable series Numbering Pools. The award was presented by Yvette van Caldenborgh of Museum Voorlinden during the festive opening.⁠

Since 2008, Galerie Ron Mandos has supported young artistic talent through Best of Graduates, our annual exhibition bringing together promising graduates from art academies across the Netherlands.⁠
⁠
To continue this support for future generations, Ron Mandos founded the Young Blood Foundation in 2018. The foundation helps make Best of Graduates and its awards possible, offering young artists a platform at an important moment in their careers and introducing their work to a wider public.⁠
⁠
Through the foundation, we create space for new voices, new ideas and the artists of tomorrow. ⁠
⁠
It remains inspiring to see how these artists continue to grow, develop their work and find their own place in the art world.⁠

Artwork by Đăng-Vũ Đặng, winner of the RM Public Choice Award 2025. For this year's visual identity he works in frottage, taking rubbings from Vietnam's Nine Dynastic Urns in the ancestral temple of the Nguyễn dynasty in Huế. A crane, for longevity and wisdom (Yang), meets a snake, for renewal and strategy (Yin), the two held in balance, while the announcement turtles echo the stone stelae of Hanoi's Temple of Literature, symbols of learning.

Save the date: Best of Graduates 2026 opens on Friday, July 24th 🎓⁠

For the past nineteen years, Best of Graduates has been a summer tradition at Galerie Ron Mandos, bringing together some of the most exciting emerging artists from Dutch art academies in one annual exhibition.⁠
⁠
The 2026 edition will be on view from July 24th until August 30th. Behind the scenes, curator Radek Vana and the Galerie Ron Mandos team are currently visiting graduation shows across the Netherlands and selecting this year's participants.⁠
⁠
The opening takes place on Friday, July 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, ⁠
with the RM Young Blood Award ceremony at 6:00 PM. ⁠

Paulo Chicareli | 1993 – 2026 🕯️

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Paulo Chicareli.

Paulo was a very dear member the Galerie Ron Mandos community and an alumnus of the Young Blood Foundation’s Best of Graduates programme. From the very beginning, he stood out not only for his work (deeply engaged with themes he cared about, including LGBTQ+ rights, and a clear consciousness of the world and people around him) but also for who he was: always kind, empathetic.

He was a constant and warm presence at our events and left a lasting impression on everyone who met him, including all of us at Galerie Ron Mandos and the Young Blood Foundation.

A memorial gathering will be held at KABK on Thursday, April 23, starting at 16:30 in PB.111, where all who wish to attend are welcome to come together in memory of Paulo.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones. 🤍
