IBS-U, International Business School Union

The IBS-U is a non-profit student organization at the International Business School of the Hanze University of Applied Science in Groningen, Netherland.

The IBS-U is a non-profit student organization, which is part of the Hanze University of Applied Science in Groningen. It has been founded in 2007 as an independent student organization, working to provide recreation and entertainment opportunities for international business students. Until now, the organization has grown at a rapid pace and in 2009 was recognized as an official part of the univer

sity. Now, the IBS-U boasts a yearly membership of over 400 students and organizes several events per month from September to June. Moreover, the IBS-U is responsible for the afternoon and evening program during the introduction week for the first year students, providing opportunities for networking and thus, making the start of the studies a breeze.

🏂 Ski Trip Recap 🏂

At the end of February, a group of enthusiastic students headed to the beautiful French Alps, excited for the week ahead at the highest ski resort in Europe! ⛷️

From first timers to experienced skiers and snowboarders: everyone showed up on the slopes, and we couldn’t have dreamed better than Val Thorens to enjoy these sunny days 🌅

Whether you needed some time on your own (while others were still recovering from the crazy day – or night – before ;)), or in small groups, or even big teams, IBS-U explored the entire 3 Vallées! 🏔️

After all that hard work, it was time to chill, unwind or experience something else… this is where the unforgettable après ski afternoons at La Folie Folie Douce, or the nights out in the village come in: safe to say that priorities lied sometimes elsewhere 🍻

Not to forget the additional core memories unlocked as the spontaneous sunset planned with some beers and pizzas at the top of the mountain, before skiing back to the hotel at night 🍕

Hello 👋🏻

My name is Jace, a third-year student at the IB. I’m currently completing my minor at Hanze.

Last year, I served as the head of various committees and as the board’s external coordinator. This year, I’m excited to continue my journey with IBS-U as the Chair.

With the experience I gained last year, I’m looking forward to working with our amazing board members and seven committees to make this year even better!

You can usually find me around campus, at the IBS-U office, the IBS info desk, or in front of the coffee machine, satisfying my caffeine needs. If you have any questions about IBS-U, school life, or need any kind of help, feel free to stop by or reach out anytime!

When I’m not at school, you’ll probably find me on a terrace grabbing drinks with friends or at home watching movies.

I’m Romy, and I’ll be the Secretary of IBS-U for the 2025–2026 academic year! 👩🏼‍💼

Serving as a ‘seccy’ means handling meetings ✍🏻, social medias & website 💻, as well as official communications. ✉ Thus, being half French 🇫🇷 and half Dutch 🇳🇱 is definitely an asset in this Board life: it helps me stay connected with our members 🫂, other associations 🤝🏻, and university staff 🎓 – making sure everything runs smoothly! 🏃🏼‍♀

Hey everyone!

My name is Joshua, I’m from Hamburg, Germany, and currently a second-year International Business student here at Hanze.

This year, I’ll be serving as the Treasurer for IBS-U, taking care of the budgeting and helping to keep our finances organized so our events and activities can run smoothly. I’m really looking forward to working with the board and our committees to make this a fun and well-organized year for everyone.

In my free time, I’m always open to playing a round of pool, spending time with friends, and discovering nice places around Groningen.

My name is Oskar Bakker and I’m this year’s internal coordinator. I’m 19 years old, from Chicago, and a second year in IB’s 4-year program. I joined IBS-U’s social committee at the beginning of my first year, where I planned exciting events, made countless friends, and attended a few too many borrels.

I’m lucky to be responsible for the members of the IBS-U, its 7 impressive committees, and for ensuring proper collaboration and efficiency throughout the entirety of the year. Whether you’re in the union or not, please feel free to talk about any manner of issues, no matter if you’re having relationship problems, or if you need help with your 401k.
