𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐩: It’s almost time for the first Monday of the new month, so don’t be alarmed if you hear air raid sirens or receive an NL alert on your phone at 12:00 on this day! It’s just a test to see if the alarm system works correctly.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭?
If the air raid sirens go off on the first Monday of the month at 12:00 (noon) and last for about 1 minute and 26 seconds, you know it is a test. Air sirens will not be tested outside these days or on public holidays.

To see that the warning infrastructure is functioning correctly and to let citizens know what the sirens sound like.

Are you new to Friesland and the Netherlands or still adjusting to life, work, language, or culture here? Finding Your Feet in Friesland is a small-group reflection session for internationals living in the Netherlands who want to pause, reflect, and connect with others navigating life in a new country.

These sessions are fully in English and focus on human connection, reflection, and shared experiences rather than formal coaching or therapy. Through this event, our host Bruno offers you space to find inspiration, rediscover motivation, and gain a clearer sense of direction as you navigate this new chapter of your life. Through open conversations and shared experiences, you can also build new connections with others who understand the challenges and opportunities of starting fresh in a new country.

Understanding the Dutch education system and finding the right school for your child in the Netherlands can be quite a challenge.

How does this complex education system actually work? What is the difference between primary school and secondary school, and how do the different levels work within a secondary school? What is the difference between regular schools, special education forms such as Montessori, and international schools? Can you attend a Dutch school if you don’t speak Dutch yet? And what about enrollment and waiting lists?

If questions like these have been on your mind lately, we highly recommend you to attend our upcoming free webinar about navigating the Dutch education system. During this session you will learn about the ins and outs of how Dutch education works and hear about international schools in the area.

Join us on October 28 as we explore the Dutch historical canon, a chronological list of the most important events and people in Dutch history, as compiled by the Ministry of Education. In this lecture, we will use the most recent canon to take you through the rich history of the Netherlands, as well as the choices made by the Ministry to include some and exclude other events. 🎃𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐘 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐒, 𝐏𝐔𝐌𝐏𝐊𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐄🎃
October is here, which means that we've officially entered autumn season. As the leaves start to change colours and pumpkins find their places next to doorsteps, the Netherlands is slowly settling into the cosier half of the year. Or, depending who you ask, it could be officially time to dig out your raincoat, charge your bike lights and start debating whether 12 degrees Celsius is actually "cold". No matter what you might think about the upcoming season, one thing is for sure: there is plenty to look forward to.

We've got our monthly update ready for you, please enjoy!
