SHUDOYO 2026 — The Aramean Action Summit

For decades, our gatherings created inspiration for a moment, but little lasting momentum afterward.

SHUDOYO — the Aramaic word for promise, commitment, and pledge — was created to break that cycle. It is an action-oriented summit focused on reviving Aramean identity, responsibility, youth engagement, and strengthening long-term cooperation.

On 4 July 2026, 100 committed Arameans will gather in Gütersloh, Germany, to help shape the future of our people.

Our heritage. Our voice. Our future.
Together we act.

Applications are limited: for more information and registration, see:

Why Are the Arameans, So Many of Whom Live in the Netherlands, Being Overlooked in Our Syria Policy?

That is the central question raised by former Member of the European Parliament Albert Jan Maat and WCA President J***y Messo in a newly published opinion article in the Dutch national newspaper Nederlands Dagblad.

The article addresses a major blind spot in Dutch and European Syria policy: the continued exclusion of the Arameans, despite their millennia-old presence in Syria and despite being among the communities most severely affected by the conflict.

A sustainable and inclusive future for Syria cannot be built while indigenous ethnic, linguistic, and religious communities remain structurally overlooked.

Recognition, equal rights, cultural preservation, and genuine inclusion should apply to all communities.

With deep sorrow and broken hearts, we announce that our dear brother and friend, Melki Toprak, the distinguished Chairman of the Swiss Federation, has just passed away after struggling with illness in recent years.

His condition had become very critical in recent weeks, and just an hour ago, our Lord called him home.

Melki had a diamond heart. A man of sincerity, respect, loyalty, humility, and deep love for his people. Until his very last breath, he continued to carry the Aramean cause in his heart and served our people with passion and dedication.

J***y Messo, President of the World Council of Arameans (Syriacs), stated:
“We lost a longstanding and dear friend. Someone who, with all his heart and soul, until his very last breath, served our people in all sincerity. He will leave a deep void, as his mission was not yet completed and we were supposed to visit Syria, Turkey, and other countries together. Our hearts are smashed to pieces by this news.”

On behalf of the World Council of Arameans (Syriacs), its Member Federations and Local Associations, together with Suryoyo Sat, we pray for his wife Mona, his three sons, grandchildren, and all other relatives and loved ones. May God give them the strength, comfort, and support they need during this most difficult and heartbreaking time in their lives!

We pray that the beautiful soul of Melki Toprak, who was internationally beloved, may rest in eternal peace, and that his memory may remain a blessing to all who knew him.

Qamishli, Northeast Syria ❤️💛

The Syriac Orthodox Patriarch H.H. Mor Ignatius Aphrem II is proudly welcomed with the Aramean flag in the city where he was born and raised.

Qamishli was largely built by Arameans. Although most of its original inhabitants have fled, it still stands proud as a symbol of Aramean history, presence, and Aramaic language in Northeast Syria.
